Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Carly gave me a bright smile, to which I scowled in response. “ Speak for yourself, bitch. I jiggle everywhere and it’s not cool.”
In an attempt to avoid Jack, Carly and I started taking different paths around the school to get to class. We usually had to walk quickly to arrive on time – which meant we were practically sprinting as we walked – but the distance around was worth it because we knew that Jack wouldn’t be in these areas.
He was my biggest hater. As soon as it was obvious that I was pregnant, he and his friends accused me of being an incestuous slut. Jack knew damn well that Dane and I weren’t blood related, but that didn’t stop him from being the biggest asshole on the planet. He’d become so fixated on me that I was beginning to feel scared when I knew he was around me.
Throwing an arm around my shoulder, Carly led me down the hall and said, “Don’t worry about it, Luna. That baby will be out in two months and you’ll have your body back to yourself again.” Squeezing my shoulder with her hand, she added, “Plus, whatever weight breastfeeding doesn’t take off of you will be handled with Dane in the bedroom. I’m sure he’ll have no problem giving you a good workout every chance he gets.”
Turning her head, she gave me a slow wink.
Laughter bubbled from my chest, “I’m surprised he can keep up the way he does,” I admitted. “Hell, I’m surprised I can keep up.”
“It must be all those pregnancy hormones. I read somewhere that they turn you into an out of control nymph that spends at least fifteen hours a day thinking about sex.”
My elbow hit her in the side. “ Shut up. It’s not that bad. It’s not like I can’t go a day without having sex with him. It’s just that he won’t let me. As soon as he sees me when he gets home, he’s all over me.”
“I don’t blame him,” she teased. “Your tits are incredible.”
Elbowing her again, I laughed. “Whatever. He’ll have to wait today when he picks me up. We have another doctor appointment this afternoon. I’m supposed to meet him in the parking lot after this last class. After that, he’s dragging me around to look at apartments again.”
“How’s that going?” Carly asked.
“It’s annoying. I’ve found several places that I’d be happy to live in and he keeps claiming they’re not good enough for Bean.”
Her mouth made an O shape when she softly whistled. “That poor baby girl. He is definitely the overprotective daddy. You’ll have to wrestle him into compliance when she get sold enough to date.”
Turning the corner to walk into our class, I chuckled at her comment. Sadly, her observation was one hundred percent true. Dane was the type of man who would protect our daughter with his life even if it made her life difficult in the process, and for that I was thankful.
Waving goodbye to Carly, I took the back hallway towards the parking lot after the end of class. The path would take me ten minutes at the most and I’d burst out into the bright sunlit day with an added bounce to my step because only four days now remained in school. My hell was almost over and I felt somehow lighter – especially after finishing my trigonometry final.
No sooner than I’d opened the door to walk outside, I heard a familiar voice call my name. Instantly, my body flinched, my muscles tightening painfully as my hands instinctively went to cover and protect my protruding belly.
“Where’s your escort, Luna? Is Carly sick of being seen with the school slut?”
Jack stood within ten feet of me and I wrenched my neck looking around the parking lot in hopes that Dane was waiting nearby.
No such luck.
“ Go away Jack.” My voice wasn’t stern …just annoyed. I didn’t want to make him angry, but at the same time, I couldn’ pretend his presence didn’t bother me. His boots plodded against the cement when he followed me out into the parking lot.
“Talk tome, Luna,” he begged.
Rolling my eyes, I argued, “I’m pregnant with someone else’s kid, Jack. Isn’t that enough to keep you away from me? Leave me alone.”
I walked faster, and so did he, the asshole trailing me until we were both weaving through parked cars. My eyes continued to scan the lot, but there was no sign of Dane.
His fist gripped my forearm, yanking my hand away from my stomach and spinning me around so fast I almost lost my footing.
“I’m sick of your damn games. You’re going to fucking talk tome whether you like it or not.”
“I’m not playing any games, asshole!” I screamed as loud as I could, hoping that someone in the vicinity would hear me. I was odd that the parking lot was nearly empty after school had just let out.
