I Set You Free

Chapter 10

Chapter 10

But after passing two intersections,

She suddenly slammed on the brakes and stopped by the roadside.

Frustrated, she slapped herself twice across the face.

It was she herself who had caused that car accident.

It was also she herself who had personally ordered the surgery.

Jack's body was weak now.

Even a healthy person might not survive a plane crash.

How could he have any chance with his condition?

As her emotions spiraled out of control,

She took out her phone and opened her chat with Jack.

Looking at his profile picture, it was as if Jack was still by her side.

At a time like this, only seeing traces of Jack's existence could barely make her feel at ease.

She reached out, trembling, caressing Jack's profile picture over and over.

The chat history was still from two days ago.

She had explained to Jack about that night's banquet.

Her words were earnest.

But Jack never replied.

He would never not reply to her messages.

No matter what he was doing.

Her messages always had a special alert.

Her calls, Jack would answer immediately.

When did he start to change?

Lily hadn't even noticed herself.

It seemed everything had become different after the car accident.

Scrolling up through the chat history,

It was the wedding Jack had been looking forward to for five years.

"Lily, how does this wedding dress look? Do you like it? You have a great figure, you'll definitely look beautiful in it."

"Should we take our wedding photos in this style? Then we can print them out and hang them in the most prominent place at the wedding venue. I want the whole world to see how happy I am, to see that I have such a loving wife!"

"Lily, the wedding rings I bought last time seem a bit big. Can I exchange them for another style? Didn't you say you had a surprise for me? You didn't design the rings yourself, did you? You're so good to me..."

She had indeed personally designed a wedding ring.

But... it was for Ryan.

Those wedding outfits were just props to fool Jack.

The wedding Jack had been looking forward to for five years,

She had been deceiving him from the very beginning.

But he never discovered it, always immersed in the joy of love.

Believing he had found the most caring and gentle wife in the world.

The man's joy in every word made Lily cry uncontrollably.

Tears fell onto the screen.

She sent message after message to Jack.

Expressing her long-held love for him.

Confessing how much she owed him.

But the messages sent out only received red exclamation marks in return.

Jack had blocked her.

Lily didn't hesitate any longer and drove back to the rescue team.

But it was all too late.

The rescue team hadn't found any trace of Jack in the sea.

Meanwhile, my plane had landed and I was already abroad.

That plane crash was deliberately orchestrated by me.

A trap specifically set for Lily.

She wanted me crippled, wanted me to suffer a fate worse than death, wanted me to live in lies.

As a parting gift, as payback,

Before leaving, I also gave her a grand gift.

My friend came to pick me up at the airport and saw me sitting in a wheelchair.

His eyes instantly reddened.

"How did this happen? Didn't Lily promise to take good care of you?"

"Was it her doing? Why can the surgery only be done abroad? It must be her, right? Jack, even now can you not see her true colors? Are you still covering for her?"

I smiled as I wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes.

"I'm fine, see? I'm doing alright."

"Before, I chose to stay by her side. Now, let's just consider this a lesson. I don't want to be entangled with her anymore. Leaving like this is for the best."

"How are the surgery arrangements? I want to wait until I've recovered before going home. I don't want my family to worry."

My friend nodded hurriedly.

"It's all arranged. We've invited experts here. They've looked at your medical records and say the chances of a successful surgery are high. We just can't delay. I'll take you there right now!"
