My Fiancé's Ex Wears the Same Wedding Dress on Our Big Day

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

He didn't reply. When I got home, I found him in the living room.

The room was dark, looking cold and empty.

He was crouched in the corner by the coffee table, which was covered in bottles of alcohol.

Seeing me enter, he immediately looked at me with bloodshot eyes.

"Rose, you knew this day would come, didn't you?"

I smiled at him, but my eyes were cold.

"Jack Wilson, you're the one who voluntarily signed the divorce agreement."

"You chose to go see Lily. What does that have to do with me?"

The pleading in Jack's eyes was almost overflowing as he looked at me pitifully.

"Rose, I really know I was wrong this time."

"We've been together so long. You know I've never done anything to hurt you before."

"I just..."

"You just love me, I know. I also know that no matter how much you fool around with Lily, you've never gone all the way with her."

"I know you were just excited by something new and different. I know you've always loved me in the end..."

With each sentence I spoke, the hope in Jack's eyes grew. By the end, he was looking at me full of anticipation.

"Rose, if you understand all that, then we can..."

Seeing his hopeful gaze, I mercilessly shattered his delusions.

"It's impossible."

"It's impossible, Jack ,You already signed the divorce agreement stating you'll leave with nothing. If you show up on time tomorrow to get the divorce certificate."

"We can consider redistributing assets and letting you keep the company."

"But if you don't show up, I'll take this signed agreement to court. Then you won't get a single cent."

Jack stared at me in disbelief, as if he couldn't believe these words were coming from my mouth.

"Rose, do you really want to do this?"

I looked at the bottles on the table, no warmth in my eyes.

"You know me. I've never gone back on a decision once I've made it."

Jack gave a bitter laugh, falling back to lie on the floor.

"Rose, you don't understand."

"When I was little, my parents were very strict. They didn't let me have any friends."

"Only Lily was willing to be my friend, so that's why..."

Regretful tears streamed down his face as he kept explaining why he was so good to Lily.

But I had no interest in listening.

I went straight to the bedroom to get ready for bed.

The next morning, even though Jack was extremely reluctant, he had to go through with it for the sake of his family's company.

The moment we received the divorce certificate, I felt a weight lift off my entire body.

Ignoring Jack's expression beside me, I strode out of the Civil Affairs Bureau.

As I was about to exit, Jack grabbed my wrist.

I turned to look at him. His face was haggard, eyes red-rimmed as he pleaded:

"Rose, please give me one more chance..."

"I can do better, I promise. Just believe in me."

I ignored him and yanked my arm away, looking at him smugly.

"Mr. Wilson, what are you talking about? We're divorced now. What chance is there to give?"

Jack seemed about to say more, but I had no interest in listening.

As agreed, I left the company to Jack.

Then I went alone to River City, the place I had once dreamed would be our honeymoon destination.

I had imagined countless times what it would be like to drive to this city with Jack. But now that I was actually here, I realized I could have just as much fun on my own.

I visited many places and experienced different local customs. I tried all kinds of unique local foods.

The journey was full of beautiful sights. It was well worth the trip.

When I returned two months later, everything had changed.

I had deliberately left the company to Jack, waiting for him to run it into the ground and declare bankruptcy.

Then I bought back the company at rock bottom prices.

This way, someone else took the fall for the PR disaster, and I regained control of the company for a fraction of its value.

The next time I saw Jack was in the CEO's office at the company.

This time, I walked in not as an employee, but as the new CEO.
