Chapter 8
Chapter 8
"Mr. Wilson, long time no see."
In the two months since I'd last seen him, Jack had lost a lot of weight. He was no longer the confident man he once was.
He looked at me submissively.
"Rose..."
"You should address me as Ms. Thompson, Mr. Wilson."
A mix of emotions flashed through Jack's eyes, but he suppressed them all.
Under my orders, Jack vacated the company premises within three days.
With my efforts to turn things around, the company quickly got back on track.
However, to restore the company's reputation, I had no choice but to release all the provocative videos Lily had sent me before.
As soon as I posted them, Lily was bombarded with insults from angry netizens.
Many people flooded her previous lovey-dovey posts, calling her a homewrecker and shameless.
As for Jack, the mastermind behind it all, netizens didn't let him off either.
His phone number was leaked and his private information made public.
He was forced to turn off his phone and completely disconnect from the internet.
But the constant harassment soon took a toll on his mental health.
It started with being afraid to go out, and eventually escalated to fearing any human interaction.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson tried their best to suppress the news, but resourceful netizens quickly dug up information on them too.
Even their history of bribery and corruption was exposed. Many people left comments on official pages calling for an investigation.
As a result, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were fired from their government positions just before retirement.
Meanwhile, my company's value skyrocketed. Our revenue multiplied many times over, causing my own net worth to increase exponentially.
As for Jack, I never saw him again after the divorce.
I only heard that his mental state was very poor. He either stayed home all day or wandered aimlessly outside.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson tried to talk to him many times, but he acted as if he couldn't hear them.
He just spent all his time lost in the online world.
As for Lily, her family had always relied on Jack's support.
Now that Jack had fallen, she naturally didn't fare well either.
After all, during the divorce proceedings, I had sued to reclaim all the money Jack had spent on her during our marriage.
Although Jack hadn't bought her many expensive things besides that bracelet, it was still enough to bankrupt her family.
At the next company annual party, we chose to hold it at the same venue where I had my ill-fated wedding.
But this time, I wasn't abandoned by anyone. Instead, I was the center of attention as I walked onto the stage.
What I didn't expect was to see Jack again after my speech ended.
It was freezing outside, with snow starting to fall.
But he was in tattered clothes - just a thin shirt and pants. He was a far cry from his once confident self.
Many longtime employees recognized him, pointing and whispering as they watched.
When he saw me speaking on stage, he excitedly rushed forward.
But just before he could reach me, security guards stopped him.
He struggled wildly, desperately reaching towards me and mumbling:
"Please forgive me..."
I didn't go see him. Out of consideration for our past, I had someone call Mr. and Mrs. Wilson to come take him away.
As the party ended, I chose to drive home myself instead of having my driver take me.
As I slowly made my way down the mountain road, my perspective was completely different from before.
When I was almost home, I noticed a new neighbor had moved in next door.
"Hi there! I'm your new neighbor. Would you like to exchange contact info?"
