Chapter 37
Brayden POV
"Wake up!"
I snapped my eyes open as a hard kick was delivered to my abdomen, forcing the air from my lungs. My eyesight was blurry for a few seconds before clearing up, allowing me to see an unfamiliar face. I yelped as he yanked me up by my dislocated shoulder, not giving a damn how much pain it caused.
"I want you to tell me everything about your Alpha," the man sneered.
I frowned, "Wh—why?"
"He killed my daughter."
"I d—don't know what you're—
I grunted as he shoved a knife into my stomach, "I don't want to hear any excuses. I want to know everything about him!"
I furrowed my eyebrows as I coughed up the blood, "Wh—what do you w—want to know?"
"Does he have a mate?" He demanded.
"N—no....sh—she left him."
"Where did she go?"
"I'm n—not sure. Sh—she was human."
He snarled towards my answer, "Who is the weakest in his family that he loves?"
I bit back my smirk, knowing this answer would only mean this bastard's death.
"His uncle, Alpha Athos."
The man grinned before standing, allowing me to fall back to the ground.
"You've done a good job today, I have a reward for you," he smirked.
I frowned, "What?"
"I'm not going to hurt you as much today, I'll only use the knife."
"Wh—why are you doing this?"
He shrugged, "I just hate werewolves. And you...oh...you will be completely ruined by the end."
I gulped as he took the silver dagger and cut across my chest, smiling as the crimson liquid slid down my abs.
Olivia POV
I sat beside Hazel as she cried, pleading with Vincent and I to rescue her husband. My eyes traveled around the room, studying each family photo. Brayden looked adorable in each one, his eyes always on his wife as he wore the biggest smile. I turned back to his wife and hugged her even tighter, telling her it'll be okay.
"He's such a good guy...h—he doesn't deserve this," she whimpered.
Vincent released a breath, his own eyes filling with tears, "I'm going to get him back."
"Try to find a scent," I instructed. "Search for clues all over our territory and your uncle's. Does Athos know?"
"Yeah...he already has warriors searching. It shouldn't take long, the bastard wasn't secretive about it. It's like he waited until my patrols were there before running past."
I pursed my lips, my mind going crazy with ideas, "He wants us to find him."
Vincent turned his attention to me and furrowed his eyebrows, "What?"
"He wants us to find him...I have seen this before. In my old pack, our Alpha's daughter was taken. The rogue made sure we saw him before disappearing, it only took us a few days to find him. But it didn't end there, he began to plan small attacks. He would severely injured a few warriors, poisoned the pups, anything to mess with us. He wanted our Alpha to attack him, to show the rogues how....crazed Alphas are," I explained.
Hazel frowned, "Was she alive?"
"Yeah, but he tortured her. Luckily, Brayden is a strong wolf, but...I don't know how dangerous your ex—friend is."
"H—he said s—something about p—proving his w—words are true," Hazel murmured. "And something about a g—game you two pl—played."
Vincent ran a hand through his hair before freezing, "You're right....he's messing with us. He wants me to attack, to do something so he can prove a point. He believes I did something to hurt him, so he'll do anything to hurt me. He loves to play sadistic games....he did it to our enemies when we were rogues. Apparently, he has been doing this for a long time."
I watched as he began pacing again, his hands pinching his lips as he thought over our theory. It took us one day to come up with this, meaning Brayden has been in this bastard's hands for twenty—four hours. My chest tightened at the thought of the pain he must be in.
"Brayden is smarter though," Vincent suddenly stated. "He knows how to trick someone."
I tilted my head, "And if this guy figures out he's tricking him?"
"There's no telling what he'll do. I need to call my uncle, I want to find Brayden. If he wants to play games, then he can play, but I'm going to pressure him. I'm going to let him know I know every single move he's making. He fooled me once, I won't allow him to do it again."
"And once we find Brayden?" I questioned. "It can't possibly be that easy. Even the guy who took our Alpha's daughter had set a trap for us. He killed several warriors."
Vincent nodded, "I know he has something else up his sleeve. Which is why we're going to only send one person in."
"And who would that be?"
"How quiet can your sister be?"
I frowned, "Very, but I highly doubt she'll do it. Your uncle is protective of her."
"She can get her way with him, he's not very....controlling with her."
"You say that now...."
Athos leaned against the door frame, his lips set into a thin line, "You want me to send her straight into danger? She's pregnant, Vincent."
Vincent sighed, "I know, but who else? Your warriors are crazy and mine are under trained. Olivia has no training at all either."
"I'll go in, I can easily carry Brayden miles away from there. If your old buddy is as crazy as he sounds, then I doubt Brayden will be strong enough to run."
"But—
"I am fully recovered, Vince. But we need to take another day to think this through. You can't be impulsive with a guy like this."
"I know, but Brayden could be killed."
Athos sighed, "He won't get killed, your friend doesn't have the balls."
"How do you know that?"
"Well, he never killed your enemies from what you have told me. I have also met Brayden before, he's probably saving his energy. Oh, he'll let the bastard torture him all he wants. But when the moment comes, he'll use all of his strength to escape. I say, he has two more days."
I frowned, "Why is this so easy for you?"
He chuckled, "I have been doing this for many years. Besides...he began messing with me."
"He did? That's odd."
"Tell me about it, I had a silver arrow in my fucking ass. Seraphina had to yank it out. With gloves of course, I didn't want her hands getting burned. But she's not allowed to do anything else, I don't want her or the baby getting harmed."
I raised an eyebrow as he looked at me, his eyes filled with confusion. Vincent glanced between us before smirking.
"Oh, that crazy asshole," he chuckled, leaning against his chair.
We both snapped our attention to him in a silent question. He shook his head, his lips still holding that same smirk.
"He lead him straight to you," he stated.
Athos frowned, "Why the hell would he do that?"
"Because...let's face it, if he attacks you, he won't last a minute. He's going to ruin the bastard's game."
"So...how are you two figuring this out so quickly?" I asked, still confused.
Vincent turned his attention to me, "Because he set it up like that, he wants us to find him quickly. He knows I'll catch on, he just doesn't know that he's giving me an advantage. But he won't be there when Athos grabs Brayden, he'll already be many miles away. Planning his next move, like a game of chess."
"Well, I'm about to destroy his little board game," Athos voiced. "I am tired of immature idiots bothering me."
"Let the games begin," Vincent sighed.
