Chapter 38

I sighed as I plopped on our bed, lying beside an exhausted Vincent. After our meeting with Athos, the note left from the nutcase, and the stress over my sister's miscarriage, we were worn out. However, we were still searching for Brayden, refusing to give up on him.

"He's close by, but doesn't have long. Tick tock, Alpha."

The note was engraved in my mind, causing me to panic sometimes. We were all worried sick and pissed, Brayden is a beloved packmember. Hell, Vince made him Beta instead of Julius. Brayden does everything right, he's always thinking of others before himself. It broke my heart to know he was hurting. It was affecting Hazel the most, none of us blame her for crying every day and demanding we do more.

That's the love of her life in pain.

"Any clues yet?" I sighed.

Vincent shook his head, "No. He's close by, that's all we have. Athos still hasn't talked to your sister about her going and grabbing Brayden. But this nutcase is now targeting Athos, he's really pissing my uncle off."

"I—

Our bedroom door was suddenly burst open, revealing a stunned warrior. Vincent furrowed his eyebrows as he climbed out of the bed.

"What's wrong?" He demanded.

The warrior gulped, "It's Brayden...h—he was found on the border. He escaped."

While we were filled with relief, I couldn't help but fear for our future. Brayden was changing the game, a game that the nutcase carefully planned.

"We have to set up more patrols," I whispered as we rushed downstairs.

Vincent nodded, "I know."

When we reached the border, Brayden was sitting against a tree, refusing to let anyone help him. Despite being covered in bruises, cuts, and blood, he was happily eating a cookie.

"Gods...what did he do?" Vincent asked.

Brayden swallowed the last piece of cookie before releasing a breath, "Can they leave?" He motioned towards the waiting warriors.

Vincent nodded and dismissed them while giving Brayden a puzzled look. Once we were all alone, he broke. The tears ran down his cheeks as he sobbed, mumbling about the pain.

"I th—thought he was g—going to...gods, I c—couldn't leave H—Hazel," he whimpered.

I knelt beside him and hugged him, "You're safe now."

Once he calmed down enough, we carefully helped him stand.

"Come on buddy, let's get you home," Vincent whispered.
