Chapter 39
"Easy there, buddy," Vincent said softly as we laid Brayden on the couch.
Brayden cried out in pain as his shirt began to become even more soaked with blood. We had attempted to grab some warriors, but just like Athos, he had lost his trust in others. So far, only Vincent, Hazel, and I can touch him. Other than that, no one is allowed near him.
"Oh my gods...Brayden..." Hazel said as she sprinted down the stairs.
Brayden couldn't open his eyes to see his wife, his body was becoming too weak. She carefully moved him so he was laying on her lap, despite the blood covering him. Her dress was now stained with the crimson liquid, her hands were covered as well, but she didn't seem to care. She was more concerned with stopping the bleeding, her eyes filled with concern for her husband.
As I searched for the doctor, I couldn't get rid of my fear. We're definitely pissing this nutcase off, he'll only get worse. What scared me the most was the thought of him harming Vincent. We still have so many memories to make, we still have a pack to lead, and a future to create. The thought of losing him again had my heart aching.
"Hey, you okay?"
Vincent wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me against him, his lips brushing against my exposed neck.
"I don't want to lose you or the pack," I murmured.
He kissed me on the temple before turning me around, "You won't."
"He's going to get worse, Vince. He'll hurt you or Brayden again, or Athos and my sister. Hell, he could hurt the entire pack. I....I don't want you in pain."
"Shhhhh, baby girl, I'll make sure he doesn't even come close to harming anyone. If he even attempts to harm my uncle again, no doubt Athos will snap his neck quickly."
I sighed, "If you were Dominic right now, he would be incredibly awkward about this."
"Well, I'm sorry I was an awkward and anti—social child," Dominic suddenly grumbled as he stepped through the wall.
We both laughed, "When can you return to your body?" Vince asked.
Dominic pursed his lips, "Whenever I gain the confidence to."
"We're all here for you."
"I know....but....what if it hurts?"
I smiled sadly, "Then we'll support you the entire time and make sure your body is in a comfortable place."
"What if I smell?"
Vincent chuckled, "Then take a shower. Relax, Dom, you return to us when you feel ready."
"Okay."
He eventually left us alone again, giving us the privacy we needed. Vincent gently picked me up and held me against him as he sat down. I watched Hazel run her fingers through Brayden's hair, her eyes filled with tears. She leaned down and placed a loving kiss on his forehead, her eyebrows furrowed in pain.
"Where is the doctor?" She asked.
"Right here! My apologies, I was just finishing up an emergency surgery on a pup. It'd be best if we brought him to the infirmary," a man greeted as he burst through the door.
Vincent shook his head, "He won't let us, I don't want him to freak out."
"I see, I could always give him medicine. He won't even know where he is."
"Then do that, he's going to need x—rays and other tests," Hazel murmured.
Brayden whimpered as he attempted to curl up, as if that would get rid of the pain. As the doctor quickly did his job so we could get Brayden into the infirmary, I held onto Vincent's hand.
"Don't ever leave me again," I whispered.
Vincent kissed me on the head, "I won't babygirl."
