Baby for My Stepbrother

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

“A sad excuse for a relationship,” I finished for him. “I needed more than I was getting from you. It’s that simple.”

I turned around to walk to class, but he grabbed me again, spinning me towards him so fast that I lost my grip on my bag. It busted open when it fell to the floor, a mess of books, papers and pens littering the ground at my feet.

My hand went out and I shoved him back before kneeling down to collect my stuff. He knelt down beside me to help and I yelled, “Get the fuck away from me, Jack! I don’t need your help.”

A few kids that stood around us turned to stare and Jack’s face flushed red with embarrassment. Dropping the paper she’d gathered back to the floor, he pointed at me as he stood up and said, “You’ll regret this, Luna.”

I rolled my eyes at his words and watched him walk away. Once he disappeared around a corner, I went back to collecting my things.

“Well, that looked like it was a ball of fun.”

My best friend, Carly, knelt down beside me to help me pickup the rest of my stuff. After shoving everything back into my bag, I stood up and walked by her side towards my next class.

“Yeah, that was a pleasant experience,” I answered.

Her arm went around my waist and she leaned her head against my shoulder. “Don’t worry about him. He’ll get over it eventually. I’m sure as soon as he gets up another girl’s skirt, you’ll be a distant memory.”

Through light laughter, I said, “Thanks. That makes me feel so much better.” She chuckled. “Whatever. You know you don’t care.”

We reached the door to my class and she grabbed me before I could enter. “Hey. Holly and the crew are going out tonight. Wanna come?”

“Where are you all going?”

“Misery, the new club that just opened up a month ago. Apparently, they lowered the age limit to eighteen in order to pack more people into the place so we want to check it out. You in?”

It felt like months since I’d gone out and let loose with friends. “Yeah. I’m in.” She smiled. “Awesome. I’ll pick you up from your place tonight.”

With that, she was gone and I walked into class to force myself to stay awake and maintain the straight A average I’d worked so hard to achieve.

Staring into the mirror, I quickly applied some eyeliner and lip-gloss, opting to keep my makeup to a minimum for a night of dancing.

My hair was thrown up into a messy ponytail and I’d chosen to wear a short black dress and silver high heels. “Yo Bitch!”

Carly called up tome after letting herself into the house.

“I’m up here!” I called back, listening to her huff about having to climb the stairs to get to my room. The door flew open and she walked inside wearing acute red top with black leather pants.

“You look awesome,” she said as she sat on my bed and waited for me to finish my makeup.

Glancing at her through the mirror, I smiled. “Thanks. It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve left the house, so I decided to dress up for once.”

“You cleanup well,” she grinned.

Dropping my lip-gloss to the table, I turned and smiled back. “Let’s do this.”

The drive over to the club didn’t take long and we strutted up to the line where Holly, Chris and Baxter were already waiting. A few people complained when we skipped ahead inline to join our friends, but I didn’t pay them any attention.

Getting through the line felt like it took forever, but we were finally given blue wristbands indicating we were under twenty- one and ushered into the club. Immediately I was consumed by the thumping base and hard paced music that filled the air and I dragged Carly out onto the dance floor.

I loved to dance. Loved the freedom it gave me to let go of all of my problems and succumb to the pulsing beat of the music that made my body move. Although Carly danced next tome, I was dancing by myself, not caring who watched or what I looked like as I let go to the rhythm that pushed me.

Song after song passed and I felt sweat dripping along my hairline, but I didn’t care. I was carefree at that moment, lost to the hypnotic beat.

A hand grabbed my arm, dragging me away from the dance floor and I fought back at first, angry that some jerk felt like he could put his hands on me.

As soon as I turned to see who grabbed me, my jaw fell open and I narrowed my eyes at my stepbrother, Dane.
