Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I was stupid enough to throw a party last time, probably because I was scared as hell before telling Sky my feelings.
But I won't make the same mistake twice. This time it's gonna be just the two ofus.
She came back from school without me because she went on a date with Caleb. Well, she thought she was going on a date, but Caleb did not show up, texting her that he changed his mind at the very last minute, and offering to stay friends.
I know exactly what happened because I told him what to write in that message. No, I didn't hit him. We didn't even fight; I just let him know that he should stay away from Sky if he wants to finish this school year without broken legs.
Caleb turned out to be a coward. He gave up immediately, agreeing that no woman is worth a broken leg.
Well, in this, he is wrong. I wouldn't let Sky away from me even under the threat that all the bones in my body would be broken.
Because you can live with broken bones, but you'll never be able to live without your heart. And Sky is my heart. I won't ever let her go.
I knew if I hit Caleb, and she found out the truth, she'd hate me even more. That's why I needed to act differently, which is pretty rare for me.
She locked herself in her bedroom and didn't even come downstairs for dinner, which our chef, Isabella, cooks for us everyday before going home.
Isabella left two hours ago, and Sky hasn't come out of her room since. I know she's upset about the date, but I had no idea she'd be this upset about that guy.
I feel my teeth clench out of jealousy.
And the second I want to push my fist into my desk, I hear a moan. Is she...touching herself again?
And then another moan, but more like a sob. Is she...crying?
No way she's gonna cry because of that asshole.
I hear another sob and press my ear to the wall between our bedrooms. My angel is definitely crying, and that makes me want to roar with anger.
Why is she doing this? How can she possibly be this upset because of some guy she barely knows? I wanted to wait until she comes out of her bedroom, but now I've changed my mind.
No way I'm gonna let her be upset because of someone who isn't worth it.
I immediately walk to her room and don't even knock before trying the door. It's locked.
"Go away, Zac!" she yells behind the closed door.
She’s stopped sobbing, probably waiting for me to go away.
"Open the door, Sky," I command, rattling the handle again, making her realize that I won't go anywhere.
"I don't want to see you!" she yells after a second.
If I was a gentleman, I would leave her alone and not disturb her anymore, so she could walk out of her room whenever she wants.
Luckily, I'm not a gentleman. That's why I go back to my room, take the key for her door, and open it quickly before Sky even realizes what has happened.
"How did you do that?" she asks, surprised, and I freeze in place, looking at her.
When she understands that I'm looking at her red, slightly swollen wet face, she turns away
immediately.
"I'm sorry, but I have a key for emergency situations," I say, coming in and closing the door behind me.
"This is not an emergency situation, Zac," she says as strictly as she can, obviously fighting the urge to start crying again. "Please leave!"
"Why are you crying?" I ask, not listening to what she says and taking a step closer.
She doesn't answer, wiping away her face with her hands, still standing with her back to me.
"You were supposed to have a date with that jerk, Caleb? Is this why you're crying? Because of him?" I play the fool, pretending I know nothing. She'd kill me if she knew that I'm the real reason he didn't show up.
I take a step closer, pressing against her back. And then I gently place both of my hands on her shoulders, trying to calm her down.
"I can kill him if you let me," I say seriously, and it's true. No matter what I've promised to Caleb, Sky's one word is all it will take for me to start the fight.
