Chapter 3: Shattered Dignity
Chapter 3: Shattered Dignity
I spent the entire day packing.
I left the luxury bags and jewelry in the closet, untouched, only grabbing a few changes of clothes and my documents.
The exhaustion from the pregnancy hit me hard, and halfway through, I collapsed onto the sofa, falling into a deep sleep.
The sound of the door unlocking jerked me awake.
When I opened my eyes, there stood Vincent Sinclair in the foyer, holding Mia Quinn's hand.
Sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, glinting off Mia's high heels—each one studded with tiny diamonds, shining so bright it almost hurt my eyes.
She was holding an Hermès shopping bag, and a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace rested around her neck—items I could never bring myself to splurge on.
"Zoe, apologize," Vincent's voice was frosty.
His slender fingers gently ran through Mia's hair, but when his eyes turned to me, there was nothing but coldness—like I was a complete stranger.
Instinctively, I covered the tender spot on my neck, still aching from yesterday.
"Apologize to Mia," he repeated, his grip suddenly tightening on my chin, forcing me to face her.
Mia lowered her lashes, her lips curving into a faint, almost sadistic smile. "Mr. Sinclair, don't trouble my sister..."
Her voice was soft as a whisper, but from an angle Vincent couldn't see, she flashed me a mocking smile.
"Go rest, sweetheart," Vincent murmured, pressing a kiss to her forehead before leading her straight to the master bedroom.
My nails dug deep into my palms, the pain grounding me.
"Vincent," I said, my voice trembling uncontrollably, "let's get a divorce."
He froze mid-step.
"You've trampled my dignity and destroyed everything my parents worked for," I continued, the words escaping in a rush.
I lifted my chin, refusing to let the tears fall. "I was blind—mistaking a monster for a good man."
Vincent suddenly turned, his handsome face looming too close to mine.
His eyes were swirling with emotions I couldn't understand, but his lips twisted into a cold, taunting smirk.
