Chapter 9
Chapter 9
The investigation results came out the very same day. The police not only aired the video evidence I provided but also shared the apology videos from William and Lucy. At first, people were doubtful, but once they saw the evidence, the anger was undeniable.
"This is sickening! People like them shouldn't even exist!"
"Exactly! They caused a death, and then tried to blame someone else? My heart goes out to Dr. Tina Michelson!"
"That Lucy, she looked so sweet. Who would've guessed she was that ruthless?"
"I heard William Lunniker was embezzling? Unbelievable! Someone should teach him a lesson!"
"And the hospital director's no better! They need to investigate the whole system!"
The tide of public opinion flipped completely. William and Lucy quickly became the most hated figures on the internet. As for me, I wasn't going to let anyone who wronged me get away with it. William was held responsible for the medical incident, but as the investigation continued, his corruption was laid bare for everyone to see. It became clear that he wasn't working alone, David was in on it, too.
It all clicked into place. David wasn't just protecting William because of his ties to Lucy. They were both involved in a much larger scheme. A month later, everyone who had destroyed my property was sentenced to over a year in prison, thanks to my refusal to settle. The one who slapped me got a month behind bars. As for William and David, their massive embezzlement landed them eight and ten years in prison, respectively.
Lucy, the intern, wasn't held responsible for the medical incident itself, that blame fell squarely on William. However, her role in spreading lies and hiring trolls to attack my reputation was enough to land her two weeks in jail. But that wasn't the end of her story.
After she was released, the family of the victim came after her. Turns out, after I left the hospital, William and Lucy had approached them, offering a million dollars to settle the matter quietly. The catch? They wanted the family to lie and shift the blame onto me. That's why, even though everyone knew who was really responsible, they still kept coming after me.
But now that William was behind bars and no one was there to protect Lucy, the victim's family made their move. With no money to give them, Lucy was trapped. In a heartbreaking turn of events, grief and rage drove the family to take matters into their own hands, ending her life on the street with a knife.
Justice had been served, in a way no one could've expected.
My reputation was fully restored. Former patients came forward, calling me a doctor with integrity and defending me against all the lies. I was invited back to the hospital, and from that point on, my career soared without a single obstacle in sight.
