Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I was barely conscious in the elevator, my head spinning. I didn't know how long we'd been walking or even where we were headed.
Bang,
The door slammed shut.
Something pressed against my stomach, and Henry's low, husky voice broke through my haze. "Are you sure about this?"
In the dim light, his figure loomed closer, and before I could even respond, I kissed him. It was hot, soft, exactly what I needed in that moment.
Everything around me seemed to fade away as his kisses spread across my skin, never missing a single spot. It felt like rain falling on petals, wet, relentless.
Despite the air conditioning set to freezing, his sweat dripping onto my neck felt like fire.
"Slow... slow down..." I managed to breathe out, my voice barely a whisper.
With every kiss, it was like I was walking on clouds, floating between reality and a dream.
Eventually, exhaustion took over, and I drifted into a deep sleep.
In the haze of my slumber, I thought I heard Henry's voice. "Don't think about running away."
Drinking really does give you courage.
When I woke up, the events of last night crashed into me. The only thought in my head was run, and run fast.
With whatever dignity I had left, I glanced back at Henry still lying in bed. He was... well, definitely easy on the eyes. I wasn't exactly losing out here.
...
When I got to my front door, there was Kevin, standing there with Rachel, his childhood friend, at his side.
Kevin's eyes locked onto me as I approached.
"So, you're finally back?" he said, his voice rough, like he was fighting off a cold.
I rolled my eyes, planning to just brush past him.
But before I could, Kevin grabbed my hand.
"Tch, what's your deal?" I snapped.
"I've been waiting forever. Don't you owe me an explanation?" he demanded.
"You didn't answer any of my calls," he added, his tone darkening with every word.
"Tell me you're not really with Henry now."
Mentioning Henry made me feel... off.
Kevin saw the brief hesitation in my eyes, and his anger flared.
I took a step back, trying to steady my nerves.
"So, you're just gonna spread your legs for anyone, huh?" Kevin sneered.
"You think he actually likes you? He's just..."
Before he could finish, I cut him off, my voice sharp and steady despite the storm brewing inside.
"Who I'm with is none of your business," I said, locking eyes with him.
"I'll say it one more time: we're done."
I turned to Rachel, who was standing behind Kevin. Her eyes were red, but as soon as she saw me looking, she plastered on a smug smile.
"Kevin, let Sophia go inside. She looks tired..." Rachel said, her voice full of fake sweetness.
Her words were a clear signal that she thought something had happened between Henry and me last night.
And, well, she wasn't completely wrong.
Kevin took in her words, and his face darkened even more.
I braced myself for him to lash out, but instead, he turned, pulling Rachel into his arms.
He kissed her right in front of me, eyes still locked on me as if waiting for me to crumble.
But all I felt was disgust.
"Sophia, don't regret this," Kevin said, his voice dripping with venom.
Regret?
I only regretted ever being with him.
Taking advantage of him holding Rachel, I quickly slipped inside my apartment, not even sparing a second glance at Kevin.
I ignored Rachel's icy glare as I slammed the door behind me.
