Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I used the last of my strength, and my phone slipped from my hand.
I thought I heard someone shouting for a doctor.
My soul felt like it drifted away, but I couldn't bring myself to let go. Not yet. Not when I still cared so much about this world… about them. So I went back, back to the house we once called home.
Everything played out before me like a scene from a movie.
I saw Shirley, completely shattered, sobbing uncontrollably after hearing the news of my death.
I saw Felix staring at his phone, shaking his head like it was just another joke.
"What kind of game is she playing now?" he muttered. "Trying to guilt me into staying again?"
Then he blocked me and walked right back onto set like nothing had happened.
Shirley showed up at my house, grabbed the contract between Felix and me, and went straight to his film set.
"I need to see Felix," she told his team.
His agent, Sally Perez, hesitated but eventually brought her to him while he was rehearsing his next scene. Shirley wanted to storm in mid-shoot, but she didn't. She waited. Let him finish.
When Felix finally walked over, he didn't even ask how I was. His first words were cold:
"What now? What's her angle this time?"
Shirley didn't say a word, just threw the contract at him.
"She told me to give this to you. It's over. She's ending your contract."
Felix blinked, clearly caught off guard. He stared at the document for a beat, then picked up a pen and signed without hesitation.
"Fine. End it. Is this still about Zia? Really? Over someone like her?" he scoffed. "I didn't even ask about the guy she brought around last time."
That was the last straw. Shirley slapped him across the face.
"You've got some nerve. Do you even understand what Emma did for you?" she yelled, voice shaking. "You think you're where you are because of talent alone? You really think that? Most of the roles you got, she paid for them. She invested in your success!"
He looked stunned. I had never told him, so of course, he had no idea.
"You didn't build this career alone. You had her. And you tossed her aside like she was nothing."
"And here's one more truth for you," she added, eyes brimming with tears. "Emma's dead."
Felix's mouth opened, but no words came.
"While you were off with Zia, her health got worse. She tried to call you. She needed you. But you blocked her."
Felix clutched her arm, desperate now. "No... that's not possible. She can't be gone. Just one more year. I was almost there, I just needed a little more time. Then I was going to leave the industry. We could've been together… forever."
Shirley yanked her arm away and walked out.
I watched as Felix collapsed in on himself. Panicked, he started calling me, texting over and over. His voice cracked with every message.
I wanted so badly to hold him. To let him know I was still here.
But I wasn't. I was just a ghost.
He didn't film another scene that day. Instead, he rushed to the house we used to live in.
He tried the old passcode on the door. It didn't work. He banged on it, over and over.
"Emma, open the door! I know you're in there. This is just some sick joke, right? Please… please, just open the door."
The door creaked open, but it wasn't me.
It was an older woman, someone I'd rented the place to long ago.
"The woman you're looking for moved out a while back," she said gently. "You've actually been here before, remember? You were drunk."
She looked at him with sad eyes.
"Young man… sometimes, you don't realize what you had until it's already too late."
Then she closed the door, leaving Felix standing there, hollow and helpless, as if the last bit of life had been drained from him.
