Five Years of Broken Dreams

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

My parents and Alex heard his tone through the speaker. Alex jumped up, snatched my phone, and hung up.

"That guy really doesn't know his place!" Alex said angrily.

That night, I didn't go home. Derek's calls kept coming, but I ignored them all.

I didn't return until nearly noon the next day. Derek sat in the living room, glaring at me.

Mrs. Wilson quickly pulled me aside and said, "Lily, thank goodness you're back. You don't know, but when you didn't come home last night, that woman threw a fit for bird's nest soup, making everyone stay up late."

"She woke up early this morning and was unhappy with everyone. I made breakfast as usual, but she criticized me for not showcasing my cooking skills."

"If you hadn't warned me, I would've quit today."

I had called Mrs. Wilson after dinner to tell her to carry on as usual and endure for a few more days.

As they say, let them be arrogant first if you want them to fall.

Chloe thought she could walk all over me just because she was pregnant. Now, it was time to show her who was really in charge. Taking advantage of the fact that she was pregnant, she dared to step all over me and act like she owned the place. She was completely oblivious to her arrogance.

Once I found out what went down at home, I made my way downstairs to confront Derek.

I planted myself in front of him, glaring. The mark from my slap still lingered on his cheek.

Before I could utter a word, he snapped, "Lily, so you decided to come home, huh?"

I couldn't help but chuckle. I looked him straight in the eye and shot back, "This is my house. I can come and go as I please. What gives you the right to control me?"

Just then, Chloe and Derek's parents barged in, clearly furious.

Chloe marched up to Derek and tossed a card at him, her expression sour.

"Derek, you said I could use this card freely! Why did the cashier say it's not working?"

"I thought Uncle and Aunt would cover it, but their combined funds couldn't even buy one bag," he replied, astonished.

Derek shook his head, insisting, "That's impossible. This card has no limits..."

Then he turned to me, eyes narrowing. "Lily, did you do this?"

At that moment, I decided not to hold back any longer.

I smirked and said, "Yep, I blocked it."

"This is my supplementary card. I decide if you get to use it. What are you going to do about it?"

Chloe pouted, tugging at Derek's arm. "Derek, you better sort this out. I saw several bags I want to buy."

Derek, desperate to maintain his image in front of Chloe, tried to pull me aside for a private chat.

But before he could, the bodyguards who had come with me swiftly restrained him.

"Derek shouted, "Lily! What are you trying to pull?!"

I adjusted my clothes coolly and replied, "You were too busy scrolling on your phone to notice I brought backup!"

"You think I'll let you push me around after you slapped me?"

Seeing me with my guards, Derek's parents hastily stepped in, "Lily, this is all a misunderstanding. Derek didn't mean to hurt you. Can we talk this over calmly?"

I shot a cold glance at them. "If I hadn't brought these guys, I probably wouldn't have left today without giving you money, would I?!"

Derek's mother fell silent, clearly caught off guard.

Watching Derek pinned to the ground, Chloe shrank back in fear, too scared to say a word.

I turned my gaze to Chloe. "Didn't you say you two were madly in love? Why are you hiding now that he's in trouble?"

Derek immediately interjected, "Lily, if you have something to say, say it to me. Don't pick on Chloe."

I couldn't believe how blind he was. Even in this mess, he was still defending her.

Chloe quickly added, "It's not that I don't care about him, but I'm pregnant. If I rush over and get pushed, and something happens to the baby, it would be bad for everyone."

I let out a cold laugh as I slowly approached Chloe.
