Chapter 1
Chapter 1
At twelve, Rosalie was torn from her family, kidnapped by terrorists and held in a dark basement for 47 agonizing days. The cold concrete bit into her knees as masked men argued over her ransom value. Then the door exploded inward. Sunlight streamed through the dust as a silhouette emerged, Luke Williams, his tailored suit untouched by the chaos, extending a hand she couldn't refuse.
"You're safe now," he murmured, wrapping her in a cashmere coat that smelled like bergamot and power.
She didn't yet know this rescue would cost her everything.
Luke smiled, his embrace warm, and from that moment on, he kept her close. He had cared for her over the next ten years. In that time, Rosalie transformed from a quiet, neglected child into someone who was cherished, a beacon of light in Luke's life.
Understanding that Rosalie loved peace and solitude, Luke bought her a private, century-old castle. Knowing her love for roses, he turned the castle's garden into a breathtaking rose paradise. Recognizing her passion for art, he hired top-tier instructors and celebrated artists to teach her. He even flew her around the world himself to visit original masterpieces in museums.
When Rosalie was accepted into an art academy, Luke gave her a priceless, one-of-a-kind gem, a token of his affection and pride. People often said that Rosalie was Luke's only weakness. To that, Luke would only smile and say, "What can I say? I happened to meet a little troublemaker."
Over the years, Rosalie's feelings grew stronger. On Luke's 30th birthday, she poured her heart into designing a heart-shaped gem just for him, spending all her art earnings to create it. She hoped he'd understand the sentiment behind it. When Luke noticed her flushed cheeks as she handed it to him, he realized what she meant.
But for the first time, Luke's reaction was cold. Alone with her, he reprimanded her harshly.
"I didn't spend all these years raising you just for you to develop such foolish ideas."
He looked at her with steely resolve.
"You shouldn't entertain any illusions about me. I will never love you that way."
With an emotionless expression, Luke picked up the gem she had designed with such care, sneering as he tossed it aside.
