Chapter 13
Chapter 13
When I got home, Lucas had already returned from a business dinner.
He was leaning on the sofa taking a nap, reeking of alcohol.
Anger welled up inside me and I threw my bag at him.
"Lucas!"
He instinctively caught the bag and looked at me in confusion.
"What, you're finally willing to talk to me?"
"You liar! Emma didn't run away at all. You deliberately tricked me, didn't you?"
I angrily grabbed his collar.
Talking about getting married, I had even starved myself a bit to make my figure more like Emma's.
Lucas laughed and hugged me.
"That's right, I tricked you."
"..."
I froze, not expecting him to be so brazen about it.
"You jerk!"
He buried his head in my shoulder and said in a muffled voice:
"I am a jerk. We're even now."
"What?"
"Didn't you trick me before too? You said you'd come back later, but once you left, you never came back..."
As he spoke, his voice became a bit hoarse, as if extremely aggrieved.
I was stunned and let go of his collar.
He held me too tightly, making it hard to breathe.
"Lucas, let go of me first."
"If I let go, where are you going to go?"
He bit my neck with a drunken air.
As if determined to leave a mark, he bit down quite hard.
"Ouch, Are you crazy?"
I let out a light cry, unable to push him away.
After leaving a red mark, he finally seemed satisfied and released his teeth.
"I am crazy! Aria, you don't know how long I've been looking for you."
"I didn't know your name, didn't know what you looked like, I didn't know anything."
Perhaps because he was drunk, he became emotional, his voice tinged with tears.
He hugged me tightly with trembling hands, as if wanting to embed me into his body.
"My mom wouldn't tell me either, so I just kept searching and searching. You even hid so far away."
"..."
There was too much information. My brain short-circuited and I asked dumbly:
"Why were you looking for me?"
"Of course it's because I like you."
"But I was pretending to be Emma, so you..."
"It has nothing to do with her. I never liked her, and she doesn't want to marry me either.
"I knew from the beginning that you weren't Emma."
"..."
I paused, but also felt relieved.
The bit of guilt in my heart scattered into ashes.
The crush from my youth suddenly had a response.
Like finding a hidden treasure, it was exhilarating.
I felt my eyes getting wet.
"How did you find out?"
"Silly, you've played instruments for years, so you have calluses on your hands. Emma would never have the patience to learn those things."
He stroked my hair. "And she would never take care of me so thoughtfully. Only you would do that."
My nose stung and tears fell.
He lowered his head to kiss me.
"Honey, don't cry."
