He's Blind, I'm His Fake Fiancée for a Year

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Sitting back at the piano, my mind was a mess.

Why did Lucas call me that just now? Was he testing me?

I forced myself to keep playing, for once wishing time would move faster. But the weight of his gaze from across the room made my fingers stiffen on the keys.

When the final note faded, I let out a quiet breath. Just as I was about to leave, Lucas walked over.

"You play well," he said, offering me a polite smile as he pulled out some bills.

I hesitated, not wanting to take them, but out of the corner of my eye, I caught my manager frantically signaling at me, clearly terrified I'd offend him.

"...Thank you."

I reached out stiffly to accept the money, but Lucas didn't let go.

I glanced up, confused.

Before I could react, his fingers suddenly brushed against mine, his touch lingering. I tensed, instinctively trying to pull away, but his grip tightened slightly.

His long fingers traced over the back of my hand, as if searching for something.

Then, abruptly, he froze.

His gaze snapped to mine, and a slow, knowing smile curled his lips.

"It really is you."

My heart lurched.

I looked down, guilt pressing against my chest, and yanked my hand free.

"You must be mistaken, sir." My voice was steady, but I could hear the tension beneath it.

"Am I?" His eyes narrowed, sharp with both excitement and frustration. "Then why do you look so nervous?"

I bit my lip, staring at the floor, my pulse hammering.

Just then, one of his business partners approached, calling his name. He turned, distracted for a split second, just long enough.

I bolted.

"Wait, !"

Lucas reached out, fingers brushing the edge of my sleeve, but I was already slipping away.

Weaving through the back corridors, I pushed open the rear exit and disappeared into the night.

Only when I was sure he wasn't following did I finally exhale, my shoulders slumping.

I was terrified he'd come after me. Terrified of what would happen if he found out the truth.

That all the tenderness he'd once shown had been for a stranger.

What would he feel then? Betrayal? Disgust?

My fingers curled into my palm, a dull ache settling in my chest.
