Chapter 16 The Unloved One is the Real Homewrecker
Elsewhere.
Ethan Foster hurriedly left the press conference.
Backstage, Emily Johnson chased after him, her emotions running high.
"Ethan Foster! Have you lost your mind? For Sophia, you're giving away 40% of the company's shares? What about our child? Have you even considered our child?"
Ignoring Emily's accusations, Ethan could only think of one thing, Sophia was alive.
That day, when he had rushed to the location in excitement, he found the place empty, long abandoned.
But from past surveillance footage, he confirmed that Sophia had indeed been there on her birthday.
She had faked her death.
The so-called suicide by drowning had been nothing but a lie. Sophia was alive, truly, undeniably alive!
Yet, beyond this revelation, there was no trace of her.
The agony was unbearable, but it also fueled his desperate hope.
If he did enough, perhaps Sophia would return. Perhaps they could start over.
"Ethan!"
Emily, tired of being ignored, lunged forward to grab him.
But she missed the step beneath her, stumbling and crashing to the ground.
"Ah!"
A sharp pain shot through her, cold sweat breaking out across her body.
Finally, Ethan reacted, turning to see Emily curled up on the floor, trembling.
"It hurts... It hurts so much... Please, help me!"
Emily resorted to her usual tactics, playing the victim. It had always worked before. Her pitiful demeanor was why Ethan had once abandoned Sophia at the banquet hall to leave with her instead.
Tears welled in her eyes. "Ethan, take me to the hospital, please!"
Ethan's expression tightened. Just then, his assistant burst in, panic written all over his face.
"Sir, it's bad! There's trouble!"
The assistant pulled out his phone. A video was trending, one that showed the pool at The Plaza Hotel.
Ethan watched as Sophia, stepping out for air, walked toward the pool. Then Emily appeared from the other end, suddenly lunging at her like a madwoman, dragging her into the water.
Emily clearly knew how to swim, her head staying above the surface.
But Sophia, weighed down by her gown, struggled desperately, sinking and resurfacing in agony.
Then, in the footage, Ethan appeared.
Without hesitation, he swam toward Emily.
Sophia was closer. Sophia was drowning.
Yet he ignored her, pulling Emily to safety instead.
Watching Sophia's arms go limp in the video, Ethan felt as if his heart were being torn apart.
The comments section exploded.
This was the scene before Sophia's supposed suicide.
People had assumed she'd fallen in by accident.
But now they knew, she had faced betrayal by her husband before her death.
Instantly, Ethan was branded a murderer.
"Ethan Foster drove Sophia to her death!"
"What a hypocrite! Acting like he adored her in public, but in private, he watched her drown! If I were Sophia, I'd have given up too!"
"All that 'devoted love' was a lie. If he truly loved her, how could he let her die? We've all been fooled!"
Some even stormed the press conference.
Outside, the crowd roared with fury.
The video had spread like wildfire.
Emily panicked.
Under the staff's scornful gazes, she trembled. The insults outside terrified her. She scrambled to her feet, desperate to flee.
But the moment she stepped out, the mob surrounded her.
"That's her! The bitch who pushed Sophia into the water!"
"A homewrecker, stealing another woman's man, and still daring to provoke her! Why couldn't it have been you who died?"
"I heard she was Sophia's maid! Sophia fed her, clothed her, paid her well, and this is how she repays her? Seducing the husband right after Sophia's miscarriage! How vile can you get?"
"Tear her face apart! Let's see how she seduces anyone else!"
Emily shrieked, "No! Stop!"
"'No'? Where was your 'no' when you killed her? Begging for mercy now? After all Sophia did for you, why couldn't you leave her alone?"
"You shameless homewrecker! Are you happy now that Sophia's dead? You think you can take her place? Murderer! I'll never let you get away with this!"
"Murderer! Murderer!"
The insults and blows rained down, turning Emily's fear into rage.
Homewrecker?
What homewrecker?
The unloved one was the real homewrecker!
All she had done was comfort Ethan when he was at his lowest. Was that wrong?
If Sophia had truly loved him, how could she have let him suffer like this?
