I Rule Fortune-Telling Livestreams

Chapter 210: Don’t Follow My Old Path

Chapter 210: Don’t Follow My Old Path

"That night, she just went on and on, berating me for being rebellious, saying I was thoughtless. She even said that if I didn’t take care of her when she got old, she’d just find some corner to wither away and die in..."

At this point, Spirit Jade’s emotions were clearly spiraling out of control, her voice rising uncontrollably.

"It was as if... as if all her suffering was my fault...

As if she would have been better off without me..."

Seeing Spirit Jade losing control, Shen Zhiyao raised a hand, gesturing for her to sit. "Spirit Jade, it’s all in the past. Calm down."

After a moment, Spirit Jade took a few deep, shuddering breaths and nodded. "Sorry, I got a little carried away..."

Shen Zhiyao said, "Then I’ll continue. Fortunately, after that night, when she saw there was no hope for you academically, she gradually eased up on you. If you could have remained in that relaxed state, you wouldn’t have run into trouble..."

Spirit Jade gave a bitter smile. "Go on."

The viewer count in the livestream was skyrocketing. Shen Zhiyao glanced at Spirit Jade and said with a note of pity, "It would have been better if you could have stayed relaxed. That way, at least you both would still be alive."

The viewers in the stream were immediately captivated by Shen Zhiyao’s words:

[Holy shit, guys, look! We’ve got another case!]

[This host’s predictions are always spot-on. Don’t even blink!]

[Isn’t this the person who predicted the production team would have a disastrous opening day? She looks so familiar!]

[You’re not wrong! It’s her. If you like what you see, why not stick around for a while?]

"Host, your predictions are dead on," Spirit Jade said, a little surprised, giving Shen Zhiyao a thumbs-up.

The viewers, however, were confused:

[What does that mean? Why don’t I get it?]

[The host said she and her mother would die, so why doesn’t she seem worried at all? Isn’t that weird to you guys?]

[Yeah! If that were me, I’d be throwing money at the screen, begging the host to change my fortune!]

Amidst the viewers’ chatter, Shen Zhiyao continued to narrate the story of Spirit Jade’s life after she failed her college entrance exams.

"After leaving school, you fled to a major city, as if escaping, terrified your mother would find new ways to control you."

"At first, you worked the most menial jobs for a little over three thousand a month. You had to send more than half of it to your mother. Money was so tight you had to live with roommates, crammed into a tiny, cheap rental. You never ate out and rarely bought new clothes. Life was physically exhausting and bitter, but you were happy. For the first time, you felt free."

"Later, you taught yourself about the media industry and got a foothold in a media company. After pouring years of blood and sweat into your work, you gradually climbed to a management position, earning a salary that far surpassed most people your age."

Hearing this, Spirit Jade’s expression gradually relaxed back to how it was at the start of the stream, the corners of her mouth lifting into a smile.

’That was, without a doubt, the best time of my life.’

But her expression, which had just brightened, fell again almost immediately.

Because Shen Zhiyao had just hit a nerve. "That was right when your career was taking off. But not even a year later, your mother started making trouble again."

"Even though you were still young, your mother frantically pressured you to get married. Every time a blind date failed, or whenever you even mentioned not wanting to get married, she would lash out. She’d curse you to your face, curse you over the phone, and curse you in front of relatives and friends—all because you weren’t getting married ’on schedule’."

"You were clearly an accomplished person, but just because you didn’t follow the path she had planned, she treated you like you were nothing. To make her stop, you lost all reason and decided to just marry any man you could find, as long as he seemed decent enough."

"Two months ago, you went to another city to meet someone you’d been dating online. It turned out he was a human trafficker. Luckily, as he was forcing you into a car on the highway, a toll booth operator heard your cries for help. Otherwise, you would have been sold."

"After that experience, you completely broke down. You started to feel that your very existence was a mistake, that living was nothing but pain, and that all your pain was caused by your mother... You felt that you, the mistake, were her fault!"

Shen Zhiyao’s tone suddenly grew heavy. "After you were rescued, you rushed back to your hometown... and you killed the mother who gave you life and raised you."

Hearing this, Spirit Jade’s expression remained impassive, as if having such a thing exposed meant nothing to her.

But the viewers in the chat exploded into discussion:

[Holy shit, my stomach is in knots. That’s absolutely monstrous!]

[If she really did something like that, how could she be in the right mind to be on a livestream? This has to be scripted, right?]

[It has to be real! This host can even predict things about Actor Sun and the weather. Is there anything she *can’t* predict?]

Aside from the arguments, many viewers felt sorry for Spirit Jade and spoke up for her, asking Shen Zhiyao: "Is there any hope for her? Could she get a suspended death sentence or something?"

But Shen Zhiyao immediately shot down that idea.

She stared at Spirit Jade and sighed softly. "Alas, if you had stopped in time, you might have been able to save your own skin. But it’s too late now. You have too many lives on your hands."

Spirit Jade raised her hands and rubbed her face, then forced a smile. "I know it’s hopeless. But I don’t regret it. They all deserved to die!"

The gawking crowd, though shocked, couldn’t contain their morbid excitement.

[Oh my god, more than one person? Who else did she kill?]

"Whether they deserved to die or not is for the authorities to decide." Shen Zhiyao didn’t give a direct answer, instead moving on to Spirit Jade’s second victim.

Just then, more and more official personnel began to enter the livestream, most having been directed there by other viewers.

As soon as they heard it was a murder case, they all snapped to attention.

Shen Zhiyao continued, "After killing your mother, you knew your own life was forfeit. You knew there was no turning back. So, before the end, you decided to do all the things you’d ever wanted to do."

"The first place you went was the nearest amusement park. While you were in line for the ferris wheel, a child and his mother cut in front of you. You were annoyed and told them to move, but the mother proceeded to curse you out for several minutes, even demanding you get on your knees and apologize."

"You tried to reason with her, but you found she was operating on her own twisted logic. It was impossible to get through to her, so you held your tongue."

"The mother was standing close by. After she was done cursing you, she took her child onto the ferris wheel, placating him the entire time."

"From your own car on the wheel, you watched her. She was constantly talking to the boy, and her expression was absolutely vile."

"That was the last straw. After you got off the ferris wheel, you went straight out, bought a hammer, and waited at the park entrance."

"You decided that mother, just like your own, was unfit to be a parent. So, before you died, you decided to take her with you, to stop her from raising another disrespectful person who would become a menace to society."

"And so, on their way home, you waited until no one was around, killed the woman, and spared the child, who was scared out of his mind."

Spirit Jade asked her earnestly, "Do you think a woman like that deserved to die?"

Shen Zhiyao replied, "I can only say that she was not a good mother."

The viewer count was about to hit one million, and Shen Zhiyao knew what was appropriate to say in this situation.

Just then, she noticed that police departments from several different regions were requesting to join the livestream.

Due to the special nature of their requests, they were all moved to the front of the queue.

Shen Zhiyao glanced at the public chat again and could clearly see the questions from the authorities: ...
