Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Close will never describe the bond Piper and I share. It doesn’t even come close.
“Once we got past our initial shock,” she continues, “we were excited with the way things worked out. We know you both will love each other and treat each other well. And if you two end up getting married one day, we won’t have to share you both with in-laws or split the holidays. And we’ll always be the ones you’ll call when you need babysitters for the grandbabies.”
The glowing look in Margaret’s eyes has Piper shaking her head. All I can say is thank fuck. I thought we’d have a giant hurdle to get over with our parents, but they’re completely on board.
“Just promise me one thing,” my stepmother’s voice suddenly turns serious. “No kids until I’m at least fifty. I’m too young to be a grandmother. And you both have big futures ahead of you. So, you need to make sure you keep taking that pill, missy.”
Piper gasps. “Mom!” Now my girl is bright red.
“Come on, Margie,” my dad says. “Let’s leave the kids alone and go to our room. I won the bet, which means you owe me my reward.”
Oh shit. I definitely don’t want to know what they’re talking about. All I hope is that they turn the music up loud if they’re going to get freaky. The last thing we need is to hear our parents going at it.
“Wow,” Piper says as soon as we hear their bedroom door close. “I can’t believe how easy that was.” Her face suddenly shifts and that mischievous look is back in her eyes. “But can we still pretend like they don’t know?”
Fuck me. My girl is perfect.
I flip her over onto her back and lean down to her ear. “You need to be quiet, baby sis, otherwise, we’ll get in trouble and I won’t be able to give you kisses anymore.” She nods her little head, and I slide myself right down to heaven. Sinking into my obsession.
Two years later Piper
I can’t believe I actually agreed to this. I swore I was never going to come back to
this place again, but the guys dared us to. And since none of us like to back down from a dare, we’re now entering the Fright House.
Thankfully, though, the guys don’t work here anymore so they can’t mess with us this time. But Mr. Baxter—their former boss, and the owner of this place—told them they could watch us from the surveillance room. So, they’ll be back there laughing their asses off while we’re tormented by the monsters inside.
“Just remember, girls,” Sam says. “It’s all fake. And we’re not going to let them win this time. So, get your game faces on and let’s do this.” She turns in front of me and starts leading us into the dark corridor, and once again, the bar comes down behind us, locking us inside. The candles flicker on the wall and smoke begins to fill the room as eerie music plays through the speakers.
“You shouldn’t have come back, ladies,” an ominous voice speaks through the intercom. “The monsters let you go the first time, but this time, you won’t be so lucky.” All of us shake our heads, glancing at each other. Seems like the guys are back to their old tricks. We should’ve known better.
“Those rotten bastards,” Sam whispers, clenching her jaw. “Well, this time, we won’t be separated. Girls?” She holds out her arms and we all lock together tight. The guys can do their best to isolate us, but we’re much smarter this time around.
“It is time for your souls to be sacrificed.” The door to the next room swings open and all of us jump in our spot. Shit. We’re already scared. “Oh, and to the little kitten in the middle, you need to watch out. There’s a demon inside who especially likes to prey on feisty pussies.”
I swallow hard as nervous flutters fill my stomach. Sounds like Cord’s on a mission to get me. The heat rushes in at the thought. I wonder what he’ll do to me if I’m captured. I wonder if he’ll torture me like I tortured him earlier.
God, I’m wet just thinking about it. I kept sucking him right to the edge then easing off, refusing to let him come. By the time I gave in, he looked like a rabid beast. The rope marks on his wrists prove just how starved he was.
The room goes silent and the girls all turn toward me. “We’re not going to let him get you, Piper. You have nothing to worry about,” Lex assures. “No matter what Jaxon tries, I promise I’ll be by your side the entire way through.”
Now, I’m even more doubtful for my safety. “Come on,” Sam says. “Let’s do this.”
She leads us into the next awaiting room, which is eerily quiet and dark. This time there isn’t a priest to greet us; there are five guys all dressed as grim reapers with fog whipping all around them. All of them are holding scythes and lined up like a wall to keep us from advancing to the next room.
“Sorry, ladies,” the one in the middle speaks and I instantly look toward Sam. Her eyes are narrowed and her shoulders stiff. “There is one amongst you who has to pay.” He steps up to Samantha. “Come willingly or your fate will be much worse.”
She shakes her head, locking our arms tighter. “No. I’m not going anywhere.”
“You don’t have a say in the matter, angel.” The other reapers move forward, closing in, and my stomach tightens. I know it’s all fake and the guys are just toying with us, but I’m still afraid. “Now, release your arms or you will suffer the consequences.” He leans right into her ear and whispers something that has Sam’s eyes getting big. As soon as he steps back, she releases her hold on us and steps forward.
“I’m sorry, girls. I don’t have a choice.”
Whatever Drake just threatened her with has our friend caving. Dammit. That’s one down already. And if Sam can break that fast, the others don’t stand a chance. Drake steps behind her, holding the scythe around her neck. “You will stay. The rest must go.”
