Chapter 37 She Couldn't Resist It After All
Chapter 37 She Couldn't Resist It After All
Gracelyn took a few deep breaths under the quilt before peeking her flushed face out, and with an effort to remain calm, she said, "Come on up."
And Jovanny really did come up. He lifted the quilt and lay down next to Gracelyn.
He emitted a subtle, fresh fragrance. It was a slightly cool scent that matched his demeanor quite well.
Gracelyn hurriedly reached out to turn off the lights. The bedroom sank into darkness.
The two lay tightly next to each other. Gracelyn was wearing thick pajamas so she didn't really feel anything, but Jovanny's pajamas were thin. The soft fuzz of her pajamas brushing over his chest made Jovanny a bit flustered.
Both of them lay properly, neither crossing any lines. Gracelyn didn't even dare move.
One minute passed.
Ten minutes passed...
Half an hour later, the two were still maintaining their original positions. Gracelyn was already feeling drowsy.
She couldn't hold on any longer and fell into a deep sleep.
Jovanny stared at the pitch-black ceiling. He wasn't sleepy at all. Judging from Gracelyn's nervousness, he had already mostly confirmed things in his heart.
Just as he was thinking this, he suddenly felt a weight on him. His earlier speculation instantly went up in smoke.
It was Gracelyn's leg draping over him. Besides, she had also flipped over, hugging him tightly and using him as a pillow.
Sure enough, she couldn't resist it and took the initiative, right? She had pretended so well earlier, yet now she had actively climbed on top of him. Jovanny had gained some goodwill towards her in vain.
Jovanny still didn't move. He wanted to see what tricks Gracelyn would try to pull.
But in reality, Gracelyn was already enjoying her dreams.
Jovanny waited for two hours, but she still didn't stir at all, merely hugging him without moving even once.
In the end, he came to a conclusion.
She had fallen asleep.
She had actually fallen asleep!
The veins on Jovanny's forehead bulged. He took a deep breath to suppress his anger. But strangely, he also vaguely felt relieved. What was going on?
He flipped over with his back facing Gracelyn.
Having lost her pillow, Gracelyn grunted twice. She also turned over, and the two lay back to back.
In the morning, Gracelyn, who was still sleeping, suddenly jolted awake. She opened her eyes wide and looked next to her, recalling what had happened.
The other side of the bed was already empty.
Gracelyn stared at the wrinkled bedsheet next to her. She was puzzled for quite a while. Nothing ... had happened last night?
She had actually fallen asleep!
She suddenly felt she was so bold. Shaking her head, she decided not to dwell on it any longer. She got up quickly to make breakfast.
Jovanny should have gone out for a morning run and wasn't home. Gracelyn washed up and headed to the kitchen. Just as she was almost done preparing breakfast, Jovanny returned.
The two ate in silence. Gracelyn sneaked glances at him from time to time, but his expression remained as calm as ever, giving away nothing.
Gracelyn cooperated tacitly, acting as if nothing had happened.
After the meal, Gracelyn sent him to work, then returned to Maple.
She had already packed up her things. She just needed to move to the sales department today.
Marina secretly came over and tugged at her sleeve. "Gracelyn, where are you moving your things to?"
"Oh, I'm going to the sales department."
Marina was puzzled for a moment. She whispered, "Is Allyson intentionally giving you a hard time? Aren't you afraid she'll torment you to death if you go over there?"
Gracelyn smiled, "I won't die. At worst, I'll just get kicked out of the company. Don't worry."
Marina pursed her lips. "You never know. Just be careful."
"Mm, thanks for the reminder." Gracelyn picked up her things. Recalling something, she hesitated and asked, "Oh right, can I ask you a question?"
"What is it?"
Gracelyn seemed a little embarrassed. She carefully considered for a moment before speaking. "If a man lies next to a woman and he ... doesn't do anything, what does that mean?"
"Are there still men like that nowadays?" Marina almost instinctively replied but quickly caught herself. She widened her eyes, staring at Gracelyn. "You can't be talking about your husband, right?"
"Uh ... just randomly asking."
Marina suddenly became anxious. She grabbed Gracelyn's arm. "Then let me warn you. You should be careful. Look at how pretty you are, and you're a couple. If he lies next to you without any response, there are only two possibilities."
"Which two?"
Marina looked around and leaned close to Gracelyn's ear, speaking in a hushed voice that only they could hear, "Either he's impotent, or he's gay. Both possibilities are terrifying."
"No ... no way!" Gracelyn was startled by her words. "Is there a chance he just doesn't like it?"
"Get out of here. Men are creatures who think with their lower halves. What does liking have to do with it? Even if he doesn't like the woman when they lie together, could he have no reaction? I don't believe it."
Having said this, Marina patted Gracelyn's shoulder earnestly. "Grace, you better take care of yourself. This matter of yours is quite serious."
Gracelyn pursed her lips. She carried the box towards the sales department.
She mulled over Marina's words in her heart. Jovanny didn't seem to be impotent. Could he really be ... gay?
This thought gave Gracelyn an indescribable sense of strangeness, but she didn't feel too depressed either. After all, the two didn't have much affection for each other.
Last night, Jovanny had mentioned interacting like a regular couple. Gracelyn assumed that included physical intimacy, and she was okay with that.
But Marina's words made her have to re-evaluate Jovanny.
If he really was gay, it wouldn't affect her much. She was just afraid that if he came to like someone, he still wouldn't divorce her because he had no way to marry that person.
That would be the scariest outcome.
As Gracelyn was lost in thought, Allyson suddenly appeared before her. "Gracelyn, why did you come so late?"
Gracelyn was stunned for a moment. She quickly pulled herself back to the present, looked at Allyson, and said, "Ms. Juarez, I moved my things as you requested, and I clocked in on time."
Allyson glanced at her and continued, "Since you're here now, let me tell you the rules of the sales department. Every day you have to come 15 minutes early for the morning meeting. Being late will also deduct attendance points."
"Got it. Where should I sit?"
Allyson raised her chin. "Over there, second from last spot. Now that you're in my department, you need to adhere to our department's rules. Don't blame me for not giving you a heads up if you mess up."
"Alright, understood." Gracelyn carried her things over to her spot.
It was a spot against the wall. Behind it was basically a pile of miscellaneous items, with broken computers placed in that row.
Gracelyn tidied up the desk and set her things down. She turned on the computer, but as expected, this one was broken.
The screen was flickering, displaying a jumble of colorful lines and illegible words.
She turned to look at Allyson, but Allyson was already discussing things with others and not looking at her at all.
Gracelyn knew this was Allyson deliberately creating difficulties for her. She wasn't angry either. She directly took the display from the computer in front and swapped it over.
Yet, the same issue persisted. Evidently, something was wrong with the graphics card instead of the display.
Gracelyn had no choice but to go find Allyson. "Ms. Juarez, that computer is broken. I can't use it for work."
"What's broken about it?"
"The graphics card."
Allyson impatiently said, "You sure have a lot of problems. If the graphics card is broken, then figure it out yourself. We're a tech company. If you can't even fix a broken computer, why are you working here?"
