My Husband Chooses to Save His Lover's Daughter Instead

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

"Sign it. I'm only going to say this once." My voice was cold, devoid of emotion.

Miguel shook his head frantically. "I won't! Even if you kill me today, I won't leave you!" His desperation was almost laughable. "I hit rock bottom because I was framed, and instead of standing by me, you're walking away? Sherry, is this the love you swore you had for me? How can you betray everything you've said?"

A bitter laugh escaped me. "Miguel, after six years, I've finally realized just how shameless you are."

I took a step closer, my gaze locked onto his. "Caught red-handed in bed, and you still act like nothing happened?" I scoffed. "Have I betrayed my words? You know damn well how much I've sacrificed for you."

I folded my arms. "Your career? Me. The house your parents live in? Me. The car you drive? Me. The five-star dinners you take for granted? All me. And what was your grand contribution to our family? Our daughter." My voice dropped, each word cutting deep. "Yet when she needed life-saving surgery, you were ready to steal her chance and hand it over to that woman's child instead. You're not just a cheater, you're a monster."

I slid the divorce papers across the table. "This will be signed, whether you like it or not. If you refuse, I'll see you in court." My lips curled into a smirk. "By the way, this hotel? It's mine. Those security cameras? Installed on my orders. Did you really think you could cover up your affair? You're pathetic."

Without another word, I turned and walked out. I had bigger priorities, signing the necessary documents for my daughter's surgery and staying by her side. Miguel wasn't worth another second of my time.

As I pulled up to the new hospital, my phone buzzed. Miguel's superior. I ignored it. Seconds later, a message popped up.

*I'm so sorry. I had no idea Miguel was covering a patient's medical expenses for such a disgusting reason. It was my oversight for not catching on sooner. But please, this has nothing to do with the hospital. If you pull your funding now, we'll collapse!*

I stared at the message before deleting it without a second thought. Maybe he hadn't known about Miguel's affair, but did he really expect me to believe no one in the hospital noticed Miguel manipulating the transplant list? That he almost stole my daughter's kidney for his mistress's child? They were all complicit.

And I had no intention of letting any of them off the hook.

By the time I reached my daughter's room, she was clutching a stuffed animal Miguel had bought her. My chest tightened. Without hesitation, I plucked it from her hands and tossed it into the trash.

"Mommy, "

"It's dirty, sweetheart," I said gently, brushing her hair back. "Mommy will get you a new one."

After signing the final paperwork, I stayed by her side through the night. One night. That was all it took for everything to change.

By morning, Miguel had been fired. Blacklisted from the medical community. His reputation was in ruins. Patients fled the hospital in droves, leaving it a hollow, dying shell. Outside, angry protesters gathered, their chants echoing through the streets. Red paint smeared the once-pristine walls, a stark warning to anyone who dared follow in his footsteps. Banners demanding justice lined the entrance. Security had long since abandoned their posts.

Reporters swarmed the scene, broadcasting live updates. The internet exploded. Comments poured in, thousands upon thousands of people tearing Miguel apart.

I shut off my phone. None of it mattered. Not right now.

I walked with my daughter as they wheeled her toward the operating room. She gripped my hand tightly, her small fingers trembling. "Mommy, I'm scared."

I kneeled beside her, forcing a reassuring smile. "It's okay, sweetheart. It'll be over before you know it. It won't hurt, and Mommy will be right here, waiting for you."

The surgical lights flickered on. The doors swung shut. My heart clenched painfully.

Then, my phone vibrated.

A notification from my home security system.

My blood ran cold.

Despite removing Miguel's fingerprint access and locking him out of the system, he'd still managed to break in."
