Chapter Fifteen
Chapter Fifteen
To Threaten The King’s Maid
Lily’s POV
When the next morning came, I had intended to have a conversation with the Lycan King. I wanted to know more about the Fire Wolf and more about it affected him during his day-to-day life.
I rolled over on the side of the bed and saw a note on the nightstand.
Lily,
Meet me in the garden once you’re ready. There’s something important I need to talk to you about.
-Zack
It was odd seeing his real name signed at the bottom of the letter. Despite how intimate we had gotten recently, I still couldn’t find the courage to address him as anything other than ‘Your Majesty’.
After I got ready and had a light breakfast, I made my way to the beautiful garden. The rose bushes and tulip bed were in full bloom. I watched as the bees flew from flower to flower, and I even saw a hummingbird whiz through to find nectar.
In the middle of the garden was a small clearing where two seats and a small table sat. I looked around for the Lycan King and found that he wasn’t here yet.
Weird. He’s never late for anything.
Just as I was about to turn around to try and find him, I saw a tall man step out from behind one of the bushes. I recognized him from the fight he was forced to take part in a few days ago.
That’s Alpha Leo’s son, Alex. He was the one that won the fight and the grand prize.
I nodded my head at him. “Alex, right?”
He gave me a gentle smile and bowed respectfully. “You’re right.”
I couldn’t help but feel like something was wrong. Still, I kept my cool and tried to see if I could just leave without causing any trouble.
“Is there something I can help you with? If not, I need to get going. I just wanted to check up on the garden before I went to go meet with someone.”
“Oh, you mean Zack, right?”
I was speechless at his boldness to address the Lycan King by his personal name. As far as I knew, Alex and the king weren’t particularly close. Not like he ever spoke about anyone else anyway.
Alex smiled at me again as he began to step close to me. “You’re a part of the Blue Moon Pack, right, Lily?”
I nodded my head.
“I know a lot about your pack, you know. Though the Shining Star Hills pales in comparison to the Blackwell Hills, your family is just as secluded as Zack was.” Alex was getting closer.
I wanted to move but felt rooted in place. Could Alex’s wolf be affecting me or am I just too scared to react?
“That means your pack has never had to deal with war. Natural resources come easily to you and your pack, so you’ve never known what it was like to kill before.”
Where is he going with this?
That was when I finally noticed that Alex was only a few inches from me.
“Is that why you’re having a hard time getting rid of that murderer? You don’t have it in you to kill Zack, do you?”
I took a step back not wanting him to get any closer to me. It was never my job to kill the Lycan King, no matter how many atrocities he committed.
I made the promise to serve the Lycan King as his maid. Now that I was the only one out of the 100 left, I definitely couldn’t break that promise.
When I took a step back, Alex countered my movements as he grabbed my waist with his strong hand. He leaned in and began to whisper in my ear.
“Your scent… it’s sweet like vanilla. I wonder if you taste the same way, too. I bet I could tame that wolf inside of your head.”
I reeled back in disgust and slapped Alex across the face.
Surprisingly, he didn’t react to it, and I knew that he had the reflexes to dodge my slap based on how I watched him fight the other day.
Instead, Alex chuckled as he continued to have a hold on my waist. “Calm down, Lily. It was just a joke.”
I steadied my breathing and glared at him. “You didn’t come here to hit on me, Alex. Tell me what you’re really after.”
He raised his eyebrows and smiled. “You’re a smart girl–and beautiful, too. No wonder why Zack keeps you around.”
Suddenly, he released his hold on me and began to pace in circles. I watched him nervously for a few moments when he looked back at me.
This time, however, his expression was serious and hard. There was no trace of the playfulness he showcased a few seconds ago.
“You’re going to kill, Zack.” Alex didn’t phrase it as a question. “You’re going to rid this world of that murdering psychopath.”
I shook my head. “That wasn’t my job, and it never will be. The other maids I went with, they tried, and look what happened to them!”
“My promise was to serve the Lycan King in any way I could and to stay safe until I could see my parents again. I don’t plan on breaking that promise.” My voice was strong.
Alex rolled his eyes. “Beta William and Miss Betty, right? I’ve been keeping my eye on them for a while.”
A smirk tugged on his lips. “I’ve been keeping my eye on them, you know. They’re healthy and continue to help that Alpha of yours keep the pack in good shape. Oscar, I think his name was.”
My heart sank the more he began to talk about my family.
“I heard that your parents and Alpha Oscar had plans to go to the Sacred Hills and pay their respects to the Moon Goddess. It would be a shame if they never made it back from their trip…” Alex looked at me smugly.
My jaw dropped to the floor. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing!
“Leave my parents alone, Alex!” I yelled.
Alex chuckled as he reached into his back pocket and pulled out something shiny. When he handed it to me, I let out a gasp.
It was the silver dagger from the west tower of the old Blackwell Hills castle!
Before Alex left, he placed a water bottle on the table and dropped a pill in the water. After he shook it up, the water turned a vibrant green for a few seconds before turning back to its original clear form.
Poison?
“You’re the only one left. It’s up to you to finish what they started, Lily. Unless you want to kiss your parents goodbye.”
