Our Vows Were Fake, Theirs Were Real

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

"Timothy, you're a heartless monster! I swear, you'll rot in hell!"

My voice rang out like thunder. Timothy froze, stunned by the fury in my words.

Smack!

A sharp pain bloomed on my cheek.

Before I could react, Mia had stormed over and slapped me, twice, hard.

"Don't you dare talk about Timothy like that!" she shrieked, eyes blazing.

Just then, someone came running toward us.

It was Timothy's secretary, out of breath and clearly flustered. He shot me a quick, uneasy glance before pulling Timothy aside.

"Mr. Gage... Ms. Joe's grandfather passed away the night of your wedding."

Timothy's expression changed instantly. His brows furrowed as the color drained from his face.

The secretary lowered his voice. "The grave Ms. Adrian picked… it belongs to Ms. Joe's grandfather."

"What? That's impossible," Timothy said, disbelief thick in his voice. "Are you sure?"

"I'm afraid so, sir. I just got the documents, Mr. Joe's death certificate and the cemetery contract. There's no mistake."

He handed Timothy the papers.

Timothy took them, his hands visibly shaking. He stared at the documents like he didn't even know how to read anymore. Finally, his arms dropped to his sides, and he let out a slow breath, defeated.

He walked over and knelt down in front of me, guilt written all over his face.

I didn't even look at him. I was still on the ground, gathering what remained of my grandfather's ashes, my hands trembling, tears clouding my vision.

I kept whispering silently, over and over: I'm sorry, Grandpa. I'm so sorry.

"Evie... I didn't know. I swear I didn't know..." Timothy reached out toward me.

I jerked away.

"Don't touch me. Don't even look at me."

I clutched the urn tightly to my chest and stood up, my whole body trembling with fury and pain.

I glared at him, voice low and sharp.

"Timothy, my grandfather and I treated you like family. We trusted you. And this is how you repay us?"

"You didn't just cause his death, you desecrated his grave and spilled his ashes like trash."

"You're not just cruel, you're cursed."

"You'll pay for this. One way or another."
