Chapter 11: You Enabled the Evil
Chapter 11: You Enabled the Evil
Back then, Margaret had only allowed Sophia Roberts into the Vanderbilt family because of her commercial value.
As a top-tier celebrity, having her as a daughter-in-law not only saved the family a fortune in endorsement fees but also boosted sales for the Vanderbilt brands thanks to her massive fanbase.
Now, years later, the brand effect had already taken hold, and Sophia was no longer as useful.
Besides, what kind of woman doesn't bear children?
Just as Margaret was struggling to find a way to push another woman into her son's bed, this incident happened.
It was practically divine intervention!
What a perfect death—clearing the way for the new woman!
Lying in the hospital bed, Ethan Vanderbilt was stunned. "Mom! What are you saying? There's no one for me but Sophia!"
"And I got a vasectomy years ago! That thing in her belly can't possibly be mine!"
Watching her son's hysterics, Margaret merely picked at her ear indifferently.
"The doctor said even with a vasectomy, there's still a small chance of pregnancy. Hurry up and recover so you can marry her properly. Once Isabella's belly starts showing, the gossip will be unbearable."
No sooner had she spoken than Isabella Thompson, dressed in a pristine white dress, entered the room, supported by Emily Vanderbilt.
"Ethan."
Her complexion was radiant, her smugness barely concealed.
"You bitch!" Ethan lunged forward and slapped her to the ground.
"Tell me! Whose bastard is that? And what was your scheme in getting close to me?"
The love he once had for her was gone. Terrified, Isabella clung to Emily's leg.
Though uneasy, Emily straightened her back.
"Brother! She's pregnant with your child! What's the point of making a scene now?"
"Sophia is dead! There are plenty of women out there—why cling to a corpse?"
Ethan let out a cold laugh at Isabella's theatrical display.
"A corpse? If it weren't for this bitch provoking her over and over, Sophia would never have killed herself!"
"She should pay with her life!"
Isabella trembled violently. Sophia was already dead, and he had stabbed her twice!
Yet he still cared about that dead woman!
A bitter smile twisted her lips before she burst into laughter, her fearful eyes now laced with mockery.
"What did I do wrong? I just didn't want my child to grow up in hiding, labeled a bastard! If Sophia couldn't conceive, that was her own misfortune!"
When she saw the murderous rage in Ethan's eyes, she switched back to playing the victim.
"Our baby is already four weeks along, Ethan. Please… I don't need a title, but the child is innocent!"
She crawled to his feet, pleading desperately.
"Ethan, I know I was wrong, but the dead can't come back! I've prepared so many surprises for you—you haven't even seen them yet!"
She knew Ethan was addicted to her body. She still had a chance!
"Oh, really?" Ethan sneered. "Since you love seducing men so much, I'll make sure you get all the men you want."
Isabella wasn't naive. She understood his threat instantly and collapsed in terror.
How could he say something like that? To avenge Sophia, he'd even dispose of a woman he'd slept with?
"Hahaha!" Her face twisted with resentment. "Ethan Vanderbilt! Aren't you just as guilty?"
"If you'd truly loved her, I never could've seduced you! It was you—you who gave in to temptation, who rolled into bed with me again and again! You're the one who destroyed her!"
"You knew I was her sponsored student, knew I wanted you, yet you promoted me to your executive secretary anyway! You gave me every opportunity—you enabled the evil!"
Struck by the truth, Ethan flew into a rage and raised his hand to strike her—only for Margaret to slap him hard across the face.
"Enough! Isabella is carrying your child! If you won't acknowledge it, I will!"
With that, she ordered Isabella to be taken out, then stormed off herself.
Before Ethan could recover from the slap, his assistant called in a panic.
"Mr. Vanderbilt! Something's happened at the company!"
