Fell Into The Ice Hole
Fell Into The Ice Hole
"Hey, wake up! Look at you, are drooling?" teased Luke half laughing. Beatrice straightened her back, her eyes darting around sleepily.
"Are we at Giethoorn yet?" he asked.
"No, we're in heaven," Luke said, putting his hands together in front of his face.
"Stop it! Your jokes aren't funny! I'm sensitive to death!" Beatrice snapped.
"You're sensitive about everything!"
"Oh whatever, I'm going out," she said impatiently. She opened the car door and spread her arms wide. They were in the parking area of the tourist village of Giethorn.
"So what are you going to do here?" asked Luke who was suddenly behind Beatrice making her jump in too much shock.
"I don't know, studying?" teased Beatrice with an annoying face.
"Haha," Luke replied flatly. He walked behind her, following her with a frown on his forehead.
"How many degrees is the weather today? You could die in that cheap thin coat," he mumbled as he stared at Beatrice from head to toe.
"Good then! I don't have to pay my father's debts and I don't have to marry you!" Beatrice said casually, she stopped in front of a skate lending station and asked for shoes the size of her feet.
Luke took a deep breath, "You don't know that death hurts, do you?" said Luke after talking to the lady in the shoe station.
"Life is just as painful, at least if I die I can meet my mother," said Beatrice, sitting on a bench and bending over to put on her skates.
Luke laughed "You won't see her even if you die!"
Beatrice looked up in annoyance, "Why is that?" she demanded with a frown on her face.
"Because you're going to hell while your mother is sitting majestically in heaven," Luke said and laughed irritably.
Annoyed, Beatrice lifted her leg and stomped on Luke's foot so hard that he screamed.
"If you're already registered in hell go alone, don't bother taking me..." she mumbled as she got up and got ready to skate on the small village canals.
The tourist village of Giethoorn looked very different in winter. The canals connecting the blocks were completely frozen. If people usually have to ride a canoe or boat to get around the village, this time they just need to use skate shoes.
"Oh my God, did the temperature suddenly drop? Why is it so cold..." Beatrice mumbled as she pulled her coat close.
"Haha talk to my hand! Just go! You said you weren't afraid of death," Luke teased annoyingly.
"Geez, you really pissed me off! Just don't follow me, go that way!"
"Shouldn't everyone go to this road, where are you going?" Luke said with a frown on her forehead but Beatrice kept going without turning her head.
Giethoorn looked deserted, the houses were closed because people were preferred to stay indoors while turning on their heater and sipping hot chocolate or good wine. Beatrice continued to skate on the frozen canals while singing happily.
She stopped in front of a house that looked so shady. Thinking about what her life would be if she really had to marry Gary Martin who was twice her age.
No matter how annoying he was, marrying Luke was a million times better!
She took a deep breath, maybe she should just be nicer to Luke and stop being such an annoying bitch.
She swung her feet swiftly down the deserted canal, there was not a single person in her sight. She looked back and wondered about the strange situation. When she was careless, suddenly her feet fell into a large ice hole that made her sink into the cold canal. She tried to reach the edge of the ice but when she reached it her hands were too slippery so she sank again.
She felt a tremendous cold attack, she kept trying to move her body up to the surface but every time she tried to reach the edge of the ice, she always failed. Was this punishment because she was too proud to defy death? Just as she was about to give up, she suddenly heard someone calling her name.
"Bea? Bea?! Where are you?!"
'Luke? Is that him?'
With all her might she swam to the surface and waved her hands up because she couldn't make a sound anymore. The first attempt failed. She heard Luke's voice getting louder and closer, with the last of her strength she pushed herself up.
"Bea?! Oh, God!" finally Luke saw her.
She didn't remember much, but she did remember when Luke's hand grabbed her and brought her to the surface. She screamed for help, but some people were too far away to hear her screams.
"Bea? Can you hear me?" Luke patted her cheek rather hard.
"It's so cold..." she muttered with her eyes half-closed.
"It's okay, I will take you to the nearest house," said Luke, he tried to get up by carrying Beatrice on his skates but he almost fell many times. Until suddenly an old man appeared with a shoe in his hand, "Wear these shoes, take him to my house," said the old man in thick Dutch. Luke struggled to get a sense of his meaning but he made it.
She carried Beatrice who was cold to the old man's house. There he was greeted by the old man's wife who immediately directed him to a room and gave him a blanket and dry clothes.
"You don't speak Dutch?" asked the old woman. Luke shook his head quickly, "France please?" said Luke hopefully, he couldn't keep using sign language all the time, could he?
"Good! All right, bring to that room and change her clothes, I'll turn on the heater," the old woman mumbled in French that Luke immediately understood what she meant.
Beatrice could still hear their voices but she had a hard time speaking because it was too cold. She could feel Luke laid her down on the warm wooden floor. She struggled to open her eyes and just at that moment, she saw Luke bending over her unbuttoning her coat one by one quickly. As if pushed by a superpower she sat up and pushed him away.
"What the fuck are you doing?!"
