The Crippled Billionaire's Revenge

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

The moment I turned away, my feet carried me straight to the nearest hotel. Anger and betrayal twisted inside me like a storm.

That night, Lily’s message popped up. Her tone was as composed as ever, icy and controlled.

"Ethan still has to attend the wedding in your place. Causing a scene would only reflect poorly on us—especially with everyone watching. That apology was for his sake, nothing more. Don’t overthink it. My parents were out of line, but I’ll make them apologize after the ceremony."

"Get some rest. I’ve prepared something special for you. You’ll love it when it’s ready."

But I wasn’t fooled. Not anymore. This wasn’t about Ethan. It was all for show—for me. Five years of lies, and now the act was crumbling.

For the next two days, I stayed away. Lily was too wrapped up in wedding preparations to notice.

On the morning of the wedding, I called her. She barely spared me a second, distracted by last-minute details.

"Ms. Montgomery," her assistant cut in, voice hesitant, "Are you certain about transferring half the company shares to Mr. Harrison? He isn’t legally family. Isn’t that… risky?"

"Do it," Lily snapped. "That’s his compensation. The other half is for Sophia. And make sure you personally handle the guests. Watch for any trouble from the Harrison side."

Once the assistant left, Lily finally remembered me.

"Jack?" Her voice was distant, preoccupied. "Sorry, the ceremony’s about to start. I’ll be with you soon. Don’t be upset, okay?"

I stared at the plane ticket in my hand, my expression blank.

"Go ahead. I won’t disturb you."

Then, voice like steel, I added, "Congratulations on your wedding, Lily."

A beat of silence. Then, a soft, amused laugh.

"Our wedding, Jack. Be good and wait for me at home."

I hung up and boarded the plane.

The moment I received confirmation that my identification documents had been voided, I erased every trace of her from my phone.

The wedding carried on without me.

But Lily couldn’t shake the unease coiling in her chest. Our call replayed in her mind, the gnawing dread growing sharper.

She turned to her assistant.

"Find Jack. He’s bound to make a scene now that I’m marrying someone else."

The ceremony continued. Ethan stood beside her, their hands clasped as they smiled through the toasts, the perfect picture of happiness.

Then the assistant rushed back, face pale.

"Ms. Montgomery—terrible news! Mr. Harrison was on that flight this morning… and it just crashed into the ocean!"
