Chapter 21
Chapter 21
"Sophia, just say the word." Ethan Johnson's voice trembled, his eyes burning with a sickening obsession. "I'll make Isabella Taylor and that child in her belly disappear."
Sophia Williams took half a step back, her nails digging deep into her palms.
This man had lost his mind.
He had the audacity to blame her for his infidelity—claiming he'd turned to Isabella out of pity, because he couldn’t bear to see Sophia suffer through childbirth.
"You think..." Her voice shook. "I left because of Isabella?"
Ethan took an eager step forward. "If you just come back, I swear—"
Crack!
A sharp slap cut him off.
"Ethan Johnson, you’re beyond redemption!" Sophia’s chest heaved. "Even now, you don’t understand what went wrong!"
Ethan’s head snapped to the side, his cheek burning. Rain dripped from his hair, mingling with the blood at the corner of his mouth.
"Yes, I’m beyond redemption." A low, chilling laugh escaped him. "Every night since you left, I’ve dreamed of you walking away from me—over and over, in every possible way."
His head jerked up, bloodshot eyes locking onto hers. "I’ll do anything to make you stay!"
With that, he turned and vanished into the downpour.
"Ethan!" Sophia’s cry was swallowed by thunder.
The man who had once been gentle as jade had become something terrifying.
But the storm arrived faster than she expected.
Three days later, the hospital delivered the news—Isabella had gone into premature labor.
The infant in the incubator survived only seventy-two hours before slipping away. Mrs. Johnson watched coldly before tossing a bank card onto the bed. "Take the money and disappear."
Alone in the sterile room, Isabella clutched the card, her nails nearly piercing through it.
"Why..." Her whisper dissolved into a raw, hysterical scream. "Why does everyone abandon me?!"
A nurse in the hallway rolled her eyes and turned to leave—only to freeze at the sight of a dark figure approaching.
"M-Mr. Johnson...?"
Ethan shoved the door open without hesitation.
Isabella looked up, despair twisting into venomous hatred. "Happy now?"
"Happy?" Ethan’s smile was glacial as he advanced. "This is only the beginning."
His hand shot out, crushing her jaw with enough force to crack bone.
"You should be grateful that child didn’t survive." His whisper against her ear was a curse from hell itself. "Otherwise, I’d have made you watch it die in front of you."
Isabella’s pupils shrank, her entire body trembling.
This man... had gone utterly, irreversibly mad.
