Chapter 10
Chapter 10
From the look on his face, it was clear, Hank had no idea this child even existed.
But he definitely knew the woman.
My father glanced at me, and I instinctively pressed my lips together, silently shielding Selena.
"Someone sent them to me anonymously," I said.
Hank's eyes locked onto mine, like he was trying to read something deeper. I frowned, uneasy.
Why was he looking at me like that?
Before I could make sense of it, he let out a hollow laugh and covered his face with one hand.
"Yara," he said bitterly, "you're really willing to do anything for a divorce now, huh?"
I stared at him, stunned.
Was he seriously flipping this on me?
I stood up, my face cold. "What exactly are you implying?"
Hank got up too, tension crackling between us as he stepped closer.
"Fine," he snapped. "If you want a divorce that bad, I'll give it to you. The company, the house, it's all yours. Just quit with these little stunts."
Then, without warning, he tore the photos to shreds and tossed them in my face before storming out.
I was so furious I nearly hurled an ashtray at the back of his head.
Was he completely insane? Gaslighting me like I was the one playing games?
Disgusting.
Howard was too embarrassed to plead with my father any further. Instead, he chased after his son and dragged him out.
But that wasn't the end of it.
Hank kidnapped me.
He lured me in with some excuse about signing a revised divorce agreement. Halfway through the meeting, he knocked me unconscious.
I never imagined something as straightforward as a divorce would drive Hank to this.
We had no kids. I never cheated. And even after the split, he wouldn't be left with nothing.
So what was he trying to prove?
When I woke up, I found myself at Hank's secluded villa on the outskirts of town. I was sitting across from Selena, who looked just as disoriented as I felt.
Hank was off to the side, squatting near the fireplace, chain-smoking like a madman. The floor around him was littered with cigarette butts.
"Hank, what the hell do you think you're doing?" I snapped. "You do realize this is illegal, right? You could go to jail for kidnapping and unlawful confinement!"
His bloodshot eyes looked up at me.
He flicked away his cigarette and jabbed a finger in Selena's direction.
"Yara, I know. I know all of it now. But this bitch, she set me up."
"Relax," he added quickly. "I'm not going to hurt you. I brought you here so you could hear the truth for yourself."
Then, without warning, he grabbed a fistful of Selena's hair and yanked the tape from her mouth.
"Speak!" he snarled. "Tell her the truth! Tell her how you targeted me, how you framed me in front of Yara. Confess!"
Selena let out a low, bitter laugh.
"Frame you? For what?"
"I'll admit it, I seduced you on purpose. But you didn't exactly resist, did you? As for those photos... which one isn't real?"
"Shut up!" Hank roared and slapped her hard across the face.
I flinched.
That moment, it took me right back.
To that night.
When he pinned me down and hit me.
His voice was shaking now, full of rage.
"I looked into you. I know you planned for Yara to see us in the car that day. And those photos? You sent them to her yourself!"
Selena spat out a mouthful of blood, her glare sharp as a blade.
She looked at him with venom in her eyes.
