Baby for My Stepbrother

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

unable to tell what Dane was doing. Finally chastising myself for being a coward when it came to facing him, I rolled my shoulders back and tilted up my chin as I entered the kitchen.

Dane stood at the stove, jumping back to keep the bacon grease from popping and stinging his naked chest and abdomen. My eyes widened when he glanced over his shoulder at me and said, “Take a seat. Breakfast is almost ready.”

“I don’t want breakfast,” I lied. In truth, Bean was jumping around happily, excited for the food that smelled so damn good, I felt like I was gaining weight from just breathing in the scent.

I couldn’t help but be obstinate. I didn’t want Dane or anybody else telling me what to do during the pregnancy. At that point, I still hadn’t decided what I was going to do: keep the baby, or put it up for adoption so that parents who were more prepared than me could raise it. The last thing I needed was for Dane to think that for the next nine months I would listen to everything he had to say.

Heading towards the coffee maker, I pulled a mug down from the cabinet and began to pour the hot liquid into my mug. Dane immediately grabbed the mug from me, pulling it away despite my growled objection.

“Give it back,” I demanded.

He smiled in that arrogant way that made me want to punch him in the throat. “Nope. Caffeine isn’t good for the baby. However, bacon and eggs are, so guess what you’ll behaving this morning.”

“I’ll behaving coffee,” I argued.

Stepping over to the sink, he kept his eyes locked to mine as he took along sip from the mug and moaned like it was the best thing he ever tasted. As soon as I stepped forward to rip the mug from his hands, he reached out over the sink, dumping the rest of the coffee down the drain.

My face was tomato red with anger. “You asshole!”

Another lazy grin pulled at his beautiful lips. “ Sit down, Luna. You’re going to eat breakfast.” Crossing my arms over my chest, I asked, “And what happens if I tell you to fuck off?”

His smile brightened. “I’ll hold you down and force you to eat it.”

We glared at each other for several seconds, neither of us budging as I mentally calculated my odds at making it out of the kitchen without food being shoved down my throat. I knew Dane well enough to know he’d make good on his threat, so I decided against the struggle and blew out a heavy sigh.

“Fine.”

Taking my seat at the table, I ignored the triumphant smirk on Dane’s face as he plated the food and plopped it down on the table in front of me. “Hope you like it. I woke up early just to go to the store and buy everything to make your food.”

He pulled out a chair and sat down next tome. I turned to him and scowled. “Were you planning on feeding it tome as well?

I might strain something and hurt the baby if I pickup the fork all by myself. ” “Very funny. Now eat your food.”

Picking up his own fork, he cleared his plate in no time, shoving it aside when he was done and watching me as I finished mine.

Finally, swallowing down the last bite, I dropped my fork on the plate and looked up at him. “ Satisfied?” I asked. He smiled. “Almost. We have some errands to run today and once those are done, I’ll be satisfied.”

“What errands are those? And who said anything about we? As far as I’m concerned, I’ll be relaxing today by the pool. It’s Saturday. I’m tired and I don’t feel like running around.” I said.

“You’re going to miss that pool for the next nine months. Laying out and overheating your body isn’t good for the baby, so don’t even think about it. And I said we, because that’s who’s going to be going on the errands.”

Rolling my eyes at his words, I said, “Dane, just because I’m pregnant, it doesn’t mean you get to boss me around for the next nine months. I’m not even sure I’m keeping …”

His eyes locked to mine and the angry scowl on his face was enough to cut me off mid-sentence. His finger was in my face when he said, “You’re keeping it. Don’t even think about getting an …”

“I’m not getting an abortion, Dane. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have other options. There are plenty of couples out there that want children but can’t have them on their own. Adoption is probably the best thing I can do for this kid.”
