Chapter 8
Chapter 8
As soon as I sent my reply, Kayne started calling me non-stop. But I was in the lab all afternoon and didn't hear my phone. By the time the experiment ended, I saw dozens of missed calls from him. I called him back, but before I could say anything, he rushed to speak.
"Olivia, you finally answered! Don't be mad. Everything they're saying is nonsense, and the video isn't what you think."
"Where are you? I'll come pick you up. The band's planning to have dinner tonight. I'll grab you on the way."
I told him, "I'm busy. I won't go."
"Olivia..."
"Kayne, let's break up."
I'd been thinking about when I'd finally say it, but I never imagined it would be this easy after all these years. Kayne went silent for a few seconds on the other end. It seemed like he couldn't process what I'd just said. His voice stiffened.
"Olivia, why are you saying that? We've been together for so long. How could you just...?"
I thought, Yeah, we've been together for so long. I wasted my youth on him, and I regret it.
He asked, "Where are you? Let me pick you up. Let's talk. I know you're angry, right?"
I didn't ask Freya to go there, she went on her own. The show had just ended, and there were a lot of people. I couldn't just push her away.
"Olivia, please believe me."
I was done with his excuses. I didn't believe him anymore.
"Kayne, I'm serious. Stop explaining."
And with that, I hung up.
