In truth, I did care, but I had cared too much in the past, and now I was exhausted. Kayne hadn't come home all night. As his girlfriend, I should've been texting him and calling him, but every time I asked where he was, he became impatient.

"What else do you expect? I'm just having dinner with friends. Do you need to call me like that all the time?"

"Olivia, stop. I just went to see Freya and had dinner with friends. I'm not cheating on you. Are you crazy?"

I remembered every word he'd said. And now, I couldn't even muster a single word of concern.

"Kayne, you have your freedom. You can go wherever you want. I can't control you."

Kayne seemed a little embarrassed. "Olivia..."

The car I'd booked had arrived, so I opened the door and got in, urging the driver to leave. If I kept arguing with Kayne, I'd be late. I needed to focus on the experimental process, so I stayed at the dorm the project team had arranged for me. After a few days, I finally got the hang of the process.

A girl from the lab praised me. "Olivia, you're so talented. No one else in our group learns faster than you." She'd chat with me during the breaks in the experiment.

If I hadn't given up halfway because of Kayne, I'd be doing even better now.

The girl was watching something on her phone. "Wow, this is so romantic! Looks like Kayne has always liked his childhood sweetheart!" She turned the screen toward me.

The video showed Freya standing beside Kayne, wiping the sweat from his forehead after one of his shows. I could even hear her voice in it.

"Kayne, you did such a great job."

Kayne lowered his head and smiled at her, looking dotingly at her. The comments under the video were full of people saying how perfect they were together.

I lowered my head, pretending to focus on my food. Then, I got a notification, a Facebook post from Freya tagging me.

"Olivia, Kayne's show was a huge success! You're busy, so I'm celebrating with him on your behalf. You're not mad, are you?"

Everyone was waiting for me to react. How should I respond? I just wanted to let it go.

So I typed: "I'm not angry. He's a scumbag. I don't want him anymore. You two are a perfect match."
