Dumps Me, So His Homie Snatches Me Up

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

After that, Henry and I acted as if nothing had happened between us.

We went back to how we were before.

Sometimes when we ran into each other, he wouldn't even look at me.

But Kevin changed from how he used to be.

"Got dumped?" he asked lazily, swirling the wine glass in his hand as he walked towards me step by step.

"Sophia, he's not right for you."

"I've never seen him bring any women around. He's too picky."

I looked at the crowds of people coming and going at the banquet, feeling annoyed and uneasy.

If my mom hadn't insisted I come, I would have just stayed home.

"I like what I like. It's none of your business," I said.

Kevin put down his wine glass, looking irritated.

"It was just a game kiss. Did you have to overreact so much?"

I nodded.

"It was just spending a night with another man. Did you have to overreact so much?"

The next second, I heard the sound of a wine glass shattering on the floor.

Kevin grabbed my wrist.

"You spent the night together?" he asked.

The banquet's music was soft, but quite a few people were drawn by the commotion here.

Kevin gripped my wrist, not letting me leave.

"How could you be so casual?" he demanded.

"Anyone will do?"

Before I could speak, Rachel approached from behind Kevin.

"Kevin, what are you doing? Your dad asked me to call you over," she said.

Kevin gave me a long, hard look before finally letting go of my hand.

My hand hit the chair beside me, stinging with pain.

Kevin laughed carelessly, not even glancing at Rachel.

He walked straight past her.

The unpleasantness didn't end there.

Surprisingly, Rachel didn't follow Kevin.

Instead, she walked towards me.

"My boyfriend is pretty great, isn't he?" she said.

"Good enough for you to try and be the other woman."

Rachel's words were laughable.

But they also made me pity her. Clearly Kevin didn't care about her either.

"If you're so capable, make Kevin disappear from my sight," I said.

Of course she wasn't capable of that.

Kevin never listened to anyone.

A familiar figure in the hallway caught my attention.

The next second, Rachel suddenly leaned close to me.

I stumbled, and red wine spilled all over me.

Quite a few people were drawn by the commotion.

Led by a waiter, I went to a room upstairs.

"Ma'am, this is the dress your mother asked me to bring up for you," the waiter said.

I took the dress and asked the waiter to leave.

But I was confused.

My mom was still traveling abroad.

The room's decor caught my attention.

Though simple, the items were clearly carefully chosen.

The sound of a key in the lock came from the door.

I quietly grabbed a chair and hid behind the door.

A dark figure entered. Just as I was about to strike, he turned around.

It was Henry.

The chair was already raised in my hands, awkwardly suspended in midair.

Henry looked me up and down, his gaze finally landing on the chair in my hands.

"What's this? Planning to hit me?" he asked.

I laughed awkwardly. "If I said I was exercising, would you believe me?"

He came forward and took the chair from my hands.

As he leaned close, I heard Henry's soft voice:

"You look beautiful today."

He tilted his head to look at me, his eyes full of an emotion I couldn't quite read.

I stared back at Henry blankly.

Thankfully the room was dim, so he couldn't see my reddening cheeks.

Not knowing how to respond, I could only say stiffly:

"I look good every day."

Henry's lips curved up slightly as he reached out to adjust my skirt.

"You looked best that night," he said lazily.

My heart felt like a little deer, pounding wildly.

I hurriedly walked around him, intending to go change clothes.

I don't know if the room's heating was set too high.

My face felt burning hot.

I had only taken a few steps when Henry called out to me.

"That dress... you should check it first."

Henry's words suddenly made me come to my senses.

I had almost forgotten - the waiter from earlier was suspicious.

Sure enough.

There was a necklace in the dress pocket.

I picked it up and looked. It was quite valuable.

"It's Mrs. Chen's necklace," Henry said.

A guess suddenly formed in my mind, but I wasn't sure.

I needed to change clothes, but what about the necklace?

I couldn't just leave it here.

As I was thinking this, Henry had already walked to my side.

"Put it on. Trust me, it'll be fine," he said.

Henry leaned lazily against the wall, smiling slightly.

I chose to trust him.
