Chapter 6
Chapter 6
As I walked down the stairs in this dress, I watched that person's expression.
When Rachel saw me again, a flash of smugness crossed her face.
She quickly looked away, chatting happily with those around her.
I didn't know where Henry had gone when he came downstairs.
"Hello miss, may I have the honor of sharing a drink with you?" a man approached and offered me a toast.
Out of politeness, I should have had a drink.
But the man's roving gaze made me uncomfortable.
I nodded slightly and prepared to walk away.
Unexpectedly, the next second my wrist was seized.
"Inviting you for a drink was giving you face. Don't be ungrateful," the man said angrily.
He gripped my wrist painfully.
Just as I was about to wave over security, the man suddenly leaned in close, blocking my view.
If I called out, everyone would look over.
I didn't want to become the gossip of the party.
"Looking to die?" Henry's voice came from behind me.
The man's hand was firmly gripped by Henry.
He couldn't help but hiss in pain and let go of me.
"It's just a toast, what's the big deal?" the man said.
Henry sneered and nodded, dragging the man to the balcony away from the crowd.
Before the man could react, a wine bottle was smashed over his head.
"Just a toast, don't be angry," Henry said innocently.
A few guests were drawn by the commotion.
I quickly went over to stop Henry's next move.
"Henry..." I called his name softly.
His other hand still gripped the wine bottle tightly. Hearing my voice, he slowly turned his head.
"Scared?" he asked.
Before I could answer, Henry rushed to reassure me.
"Don't be afraid. His family's business still relies on mine, right?" he said.
Towards the end, he looked contemptuously at the man clutching his head in pain.
Henry casually picked up a broken bottle from the ground and pressed it against the man's hand.
"What? Do I need to remind you to apologize?" he asked.
The shard pressed deeper. The man cried out in pain but was muffled.
The next second, he bent over and came up to me.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I... I didn't mean to. I'm so sorry," the man said repeatedly.
He kept bowing to me, all trace of his earlier arrogance gone.
"Get lost," Henry said.
Hearing Henry's words, the man finally breathed a sigh of relief and ran off quickly.
As if afraid Henry would change his mind any second.
Henry leaned lazily against the railing, wiping his hands with a handkerchief.
I suddenly remembered what Kevin had said to me before.
"He's not right for you."
Henry was even more ruthless than Kevin, just not towards me.
Thinking this, I didn't even notice Henry had walked up to me.
Until he waved his hand in front of me.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked.
I came back to my senses and shook my head at him with a slight smile.
Henry seemed to have mind-reading powers.
He tilted his head to look at me. "You're different," he said.
While I was still in a daze, he had already walked back into the banquet hall.
One drama after another left me feeling exhausted.
Fortunately, the party was in its latter stages. Leaving now wouldn't be impolite.
Just as I was about to pack up and leave, Rachel approached me with a woman.
"Mrs. Chen, hello," I said with a smile.
She was the hostess of today's party. I greeted her politely.
But she just nodded coldly.
Everyone here was a person of status. I didn't know how I had offended her to deserve such an expression.
Rachel stood behind Mrs. Chen with a gleeful smile.
From the corner of my eye, I noticed the dress I was wearing.
I remembered the necklace I had found in the room earlier.
"Young lady, I'll be direct. I heard you really like my necklace," Mrs. Chen said.
