Chapter 7
Chapter 7
That weekend, I called a cleaning lady to go to Ridgewood Heights and throw out everything Chase had touched. Just the thought of him using my things made my skin crawl.
When I got there, I tried to unlock the door using the facial recognition system, but it kept saying, "Face not recognized." Huh. Maybe I lost weight recently? That had to be the reason, right?
I was still trying to figure it out when I heard movement inside.
I pushed open the door, and standing in the hallway, rubbing her sleepy eyes in my Prada sleepwear, was none other than Savannah Moore.
"Who's there? Why's it so loud?" she mumbled, still half-asleep.
As soon as she saw me, her face went from confusion to straight-up annoyance. "Oh, it's you, Harper Westbrook. What are you doing here?"
"I'm moving out," I said, my voice calm but tinged with satisfaction.
I wasn't lying. I had every intention of throwing out everything Chase had touched, but I didn't expect him to bring some woman into my space.
Savannah scoffed. "Moving out? You're moving in here, huh? Trying to win him back? How desperate can you be? Chase doesn't want you anymore."
I nearly burst out laughing. Did this girl seriously not realize the house was mine?
Annoyed, I said, "This house is mine. And that sleepwear? Also mine. Now, get out."
Savannah's face went red. "You're full of it. Chase gave me this sleepwear, and this house is his, too!"
At that moment, Chase strolled out of the bedroom, wearing my sleepwear, too. And yes, they were matching. Of course.
"Babe, Harper's saying this house is hers. Kick her out!" Savannah said, practically begging for his approval.
Chase hesitated, then turned to her. "Well, technically, the house is in Harper's name, but it might as well be mine. I'm about to win $4 million. I'll be able to buy anything I want soon."
This guy's skin was literally thicker than a brick wall.
Savannah didn't even blink. "You're right, babe! Let's buy this house! Actually, buy two! One for me and one for my brother, he's about to graduate!"
Chase's expression faltered for a moment, like he was starting to question if he could actually afford that.
I couldn't hold back my smirk. "Oh, go ahead, buy it right now. Every second you wait is an insult to yourself. Now, please leave."
But Chase wasn't about to budge. This place was way better than his crummy old apartment.
"Harper, let's make a deal," he said, a grin spreading across his face. "Talk to the landlord and tell him I won the lottery. Having me live here will bring him good luck."
I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "And then?"
Chase kept grinning like an idiot. "Then have him transfer the deed to me. He can share in my luck, right?"
I couldn't help it. I burst out laughing. "Are you serious? Do you have any idea how much this place costs? You think the landlord would just hand it over to you?"
Chase, still grinning like a fool, said, "How do you know unless you ask him?"
I had enough. I shoved both of them toward the door. "I am the landlord. Now, get out."
Chase froze, looking at me like he'd seen a ghost. "This isn't your rental place?"
I pulled out the deed from my bag and waved it in his face. "Go get your eyes checked. It's in my name."
Savannah's face twisted as she figured it out. With a sneer, she said, "I get it. You must've hooked up with the landlord to get this place."
Chase added, "I told you there's no way you could've afforded this house. Thank God we broke up. Who knows how many guys you would've cheated on me with?"
I didn't even bother arguing with them anymore. I had the cleaning crew throw out all their stuff, including that custom Versace bed. Just thinking about those two using my stuff made me feel sick. I almost felt bad for the bed.
Later that night, I got a message from Chase's secret account.
"Harper, even though you're someone else's side piece now, I don't mind. Just add my name to the house!"
I couldn't help but laugh. I replied, "What kind of skincare are you using? Your skin must be thicker than a brick wall. Since I left you, my life's been idiot-free."
Hit send. Blocked his number.
Finally... peace.
