Flash Marriage: Drown in your Tenderness

Chapter 4: Bad Break-Up

Chapter 4: Bad Break-Up

Leslie hid her part-time job from James, but not Tess.

She just wanted to leave some semblance of self-esteem in front of her lover, but friends could be trusted with secrets.

She looked at Tess, hoping she would explain things for her.

Seeing Leslie looking at her, Tess came over and held her hand. "Okay, Leslie, didn't you always want to break up with James? Since he’s already brought it up, you should just agree! Then you won’t need to keep making excuses to avoid him."

Tess held Leslie's arm and shook it affectionately as she spoke.

"..." Leslie wasn’t stupid. She quickly realized why James thought she was avoiding him and that she wanted to break up with him.

She looked at Tess in disbelief and pushed her hand away. "How could you do that?"

"Fine, whatever you say," Tess replied. "I’m the one who kept you from seeing James, happy?"

Her tone was hardly convincing, and it only served to make James believe the contrary.

"Now, what else do you have to say?" James looked at Leslie coldly, obviously believing Tess' words completely.

Leslie didn't know how to explain it to him. She had no room to argue now that Tess had established herself as the witness.

At this moment, Mrs. Westin came out to check on Tess since she hadn’t come back in. Seeing James there, she called out enthusiastically, "Oh James, you’re here! Come on in."

Apparently, that wasn’t the first time James had visited the Westin family.

James ignored Leslie and followed Mrs. Westin in.

Devasted, Leslie couldn’t help but stare at her “best friend” who’d stayed behind. "You deliberately made him misunderstand me, didn't you?"

Tess said, "You and James were never a good match. You guys aren’t even from the same world. Look at you, Leslie, you’re working every day yet you can't even afford a decent dress. Don't you feel embarrassed standing next to James like this? Actually, I think your mother’s right to have made arrangements for you. What can a person like you do even after graduating from college? Everyone’s fate is determined from birth. So, you should just find someone to marry as soon as possible!"

Having said that, Tess marched straight in and closed the door, leaving Leslie alone in the sun. A wry smile broke out on her face.

So… this was her best friend?

That afternoon, Leslie drove back to Cherry Creek.

Cherry Creek was a touristy area. The scenery was beautiful, and so many people from the city would build villas here for their vacation homes.

Their neighbor, Ms. Laura, had introduced her to a job cleaning one of these villas.

Leslie had been working there since the holidays began.

Actually, it was really hot this time of the year, so very few people would come here for a vacation. They would usually look for cooler places.

The owner of the villa was a man in a wheelchair, and Leslie had only seen him twice.

He seemed like a strange guy to Leslie. After all, people from the surrounding villas had moved away, yet he was still staying here despite the weather.

No sooner had Leslie entered the door than she heard a loud bang from the living room.

She walked in and saw the owner in his wheelchair. A water glass lay shattered on the ground, and for some reason, he had also cut his finger.

He didn’t seem anxious at all despite the wound. He simply glanced at his bleeding hand as though he were looking at some scenery.

"Sir, are you alright?" Leslie hurriedly swept away the debris before turning back to get a good look at him.
