He Cries When I Stop Being Jealous

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

I called Lucas back.

He picked up immediately, "Olivia!"

Before I could say anything, he kept going, "Why haven't you been answering my calls? Where are you? I went home looking for you, but you weren't there. I'm downstairs at your hospital now."

I quickly replied, "Oh, I'm at the hospital. I'll be down in a minute."

By the time I made it downstairs, Lucas's car had just pulled up. He stepped out and walked over to me.

He grabbed the folder of materials from my hand and said, "Let's go home."

I was about to open the passenger door when I saw Jessica sitting in the front seat.

She smiled at me, an apologetic look on her face, "Sorry, Olivia. I get a bit carsick, so would you mind sitting in the back?"

I froze for a moment.

Lucas had already slid into the driver's seat and quickly added, "Olivia, Jessica's stomach is a bit sensitive. Just sit in the back for now, and we can switch once we drop her off."

"No need to switch. The back is fine," I said, keeping my tone neutral, then opened the back door and got in.

On the way home, Jessica started up again, "Olivia, it's been a while since I've been out, and I'm not familiar with many places. Plus, I'm usually busy taking care of Lily, so I don't really have time to go out. Lucas just happened to be free today, so he took me along. You don't mind, do you?"

She flashed me a sweet smile as she spoke.

Lucas glanced at me in the rearview mirror.

I shook my head, "I don't mind."

After a moment, I added, "Did you have fun? If not, next time, let my husband take you somewhere else. He's usually free on weekends."

Lucas's frown deepened.

Jessica playfully patted his arm, grinning, "I've already made his arms sore from carrying me around today. I'm not going out for a while. He's busy with work too, right, Lucas?"

Lucas nodded stiffly.

After dropping Jessica off at her place, Lucas turned to look at me, "Olivia, come sit in the front."

"No need, the back seat is plenty spacious and comfortable," I replied.

Lucas seemed a little impatient, "Come on, it's not a big deal. Jessica was just bored at home and hasn't been out in a while. That's why I brought her along."

"I believe you. I never said I didn't," I said, trying to stay calm. "Let's just go home. I'm exhausted after working overtime."

Lucas got out of the car and climbed into the back seat next to me.

He turned to face me, his gaze intense, "Olivia, do you... really not care? Are you just saying that out of anger?"

He pulled me close, wrapping an arm around me, "I promise, it won't happen again. I'll keep my distance from her from now on."

So, he knew.

He knew that as a married man, he should keep his distance from other women.

But how many times had this happened before? He had never had this awareness then.

He'd used lies to cover things up, to hide the truth from me.

But it didn't matter now, because I was already planning to leave.

"Mm, okay, I believe you," I replied.
