He Postpons the wedding, I Marry Another

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

I pulled a handkerchief from my pocket and pressed it against my bleeding forehead. Then, I turned to Sonny, hoping, praying, that as Nicole's older brother, he would step in and reprimand her.

But he didn't.

He didn't even glance at me. He didn't care that I was hurt, that blood was trickling down my face. Instead, he rushed straight to Nicole, taking her hand in his and inspecting a tiny cut from the shattered vase. His expression twisted with pain, and for the first time in all the years I'd known him, I saw his eyes redden.

Seeing his sister cry, Sonny's voice broke with heartache as he whispered, "I won't get married. I'll stay by your side forever."

Then he turned to me, his tone suddenly cold and cutting. "You should go home. Don't upset Nicole anymore."

I couldn't even process the words. Was I disappointed? Shocked? Furious? Hurt?

All those emotions tangled into a bitter humiliation unlike anything I had ever felt. And then, in that moment of raw disbelief, I caught sight of Nicole, smiling sweetly in Sonny's embrace, her eyes full of triumph.

Rage and shame crashed over me like a tidal wave.

I stormed out, desperate to escape. This wasn't just a fight, it felt like I was the enemy in their twisted, two-person world. I had never felt so isolated, so exposed, as if I were standing naked in front of them, waiting to be mocked and judged.

The memories piled up like scars. Until I met these siblings, I had never known humiliation like this.

A few days later, Nicole was discharged from the hospital. To my surprise, she reached out to Sonny, saying she wanted to meet me and apologize.

At first, I was skeptical. But against my better judgment, I decided to give her a chance. I even took a few hours off work to pick up her favorite cake.

When Nicole arrived, she seemed different, warmer, almost genuine. She smiled at me, took my hand, and apologized. Then, to my shock, she wrapped her arms around me in a hug.

Sonny beamed. For the first time in a long while, he looked truly happy, seeing the two people he loved getting along.

A glimmer of hope flickered in my heart. Maybe things would finally change. I turned to grab the dessert I had waited in line for hours to get.

While Sonny stepped out to fetch Nicole's suitcase, I placed the cake on the table and said gently, "Your brother told me this is your favorite."

Nicole had been quiet until that moment.

Suddenly, without warning, she flipped the cake off the table. The plate shattered, cream splattering across my dress and onto the floor.

I stood frozen, stunned.

Just then, the door swung open, and Sonny walked in.

"What happened to the cake?" he asked casually, oblivious to the tension in the room.

Nicole's demeanor changed instantly. She pouted, grabbed his arm, and whined, "I told her I'd eat it later, but Bella threw it on the floor."

I clenched my jaw.

"Nicole, do you even hear yourself? Do you realize how ridiculous that lie sounds?" I wiped cream from my ruined dress, my voice sharp with disbelief. "I drove miles to get that cake. If I didn't want you to have it, why would I bring it here?"

I was done.

Nicole had finally dropped the act. Around Sonny, she played the innocent little sister. But with me, she showed her true face, vicious, manipulative, cruel.

My heart went cold. Her so-called apology had been nothing but another setup. A new way to humiliate me.

But this time, I wouldn't let it slide.

Seeing her mask begin to slip, I pressed forward, determined to expose the truth.
