Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Vincent Montgomery and Daniel Harrison arrived at the police station one after the other.
Daniel identified himself and requested to review the surveillance footage. After the footage was pulled up and examined, a young officer brought out the belongings recovered from the scene.
"The footage shows that Miss Harrison never left the villa after returning. It's highly likely she perished in the fire," the officer said.
"These are some of the items found at the scene."
Inside a transparent evidence bag were a diamond and a red charm bracelet, nearly unrecognizable from the damage. The shape of the diamond was identical to the one on the necklace belonging to Daniel's late mother.
When he recognized it, all color drained from Daniel's face, leaving him deathly pale.
"This... this was Lauren's most treasured bracelet and diamond necklace," Daniel murmured, his voice hoarse as if something were lodged in his throat.
It felt like invisible hands were tearing at his heart, the pain unbearable. Overwhelming regret crashed over him, drowning him completely.
Vincent, meanwhile, felt the world spin violently around him. His vision darkened in waves, and he staggered, barely able to stay upright.
By the time Emily Carter arrived, Vincent was already in a terrible state.
"Vincent, what happened to—"
Before she could finish, Vincent whirled around, his gaze locking onto her with terrifying intensity.
Emily shrank back, her voice trembling pitifully. "Vincent, what's wrong...?"
His eyes were bloodshot, his voice a ragged whisper. "This is all because of you. Lauren wouldn't have... if not for you."
"Before you showed up, the three of us were fine!"
"It was you—you poisoned everything. You made me doubt her...!" His voice cracked. "Emily, I won't let you get away with this."
"Vincent, I know you're grieving—"
Emily's eyes welled up with tears, just as she always did, but this time, Vincent shoved her away before she could finish.
"Get out!"
Tears streaming down her face, Emily turned desperately toward Daniel, but he only averted his gaze, his expression icy.
Left sitting on the floor, Emily felt a chilling numbness settle in her chest.
