Chapter 6
Chapter 6
"Lauren, you've been willful and domineering since childhood. I've tolerated you long enough."
"Emily won the award on her own merit. If you accuse her of stealing your drafts, where's your proof? Without evidence, it's slander."
"Sis, I really didn't take your designs."
"You've always hated me. How could I even get near your computer?"
Emily sobbed pitifully, collapsing into Vincent Montgomery's arms.
I snapped my gaze toward Daniel Harrison.
My computer had always been kept in the study.
The only one who frequented that room was him.
Yet Daniel guiltily averted his eyes.
At this point, what more did I need to understand?
"Lauren, look at what you've become."
Vincent stared down at me with disdain.
The fiery red charm bracelet was carelessly tossed toward me, landing on the floor beside me.
"I truly don't understand why I ever liked you in the first place."
I lifted my head with a mocking smile, about to retort—
But my eyes locked onto the necklace around Emily's neck.
The moment I recognized it, fury surged through me, my entire body trembling.
It was a tulip-shaped diamond necklace—my mother's keepsake.
"Daniel Harrison, how dare you give her Mom's necklace!"
I pointed at Emily, my eyes burning with rage.
Daniel pressed his lips together, uneasy. "Lauren..."
Emily had already bowed her head, tears streaming as she reached to unclasp the necklace.
"I'm sorry, Sis. I didn't know it was Auntie's memento. I'll return it right away."
Her tears fell as she spoke.
Daniel's heart instantly ached for her. "Emily, don't take it off. I gave it to you."
Then he turned to me. "The necklace is just an object. If Emily likes it, let her have it."
"I'll buy you an even better one."
Agony lacerated my heart, my voice shaking. "That was Mom's gift to me. You have no right to decide, Daniel."
"Besides, I'd rather smash it or throw it away than let a mistress's daughter take it!"
A flash of shame and anger crossed Daniel's face. "Lauren! Stop being so malicious toward Emily."
