Chapter 20
Chapter 20
"Mr. Sullivan?"
The courier handed over a document envelope. Ethan Sullivan's fingers trembled slightly as he took it, nearly dropping it.
He stared at the kraft paper envelope for a long time before finally gathering the courage to open it.
The gilded words "Divorce Certificate" burned his eyes.
For days, he had been lying to himself, pretending that the papers Sophia had him sign that morning were just ordinary documents. But now, the cruel truth lay before him.
"Hahaha..." Victoria Taylor suddenly let out a shrill laugh. "Ethan Sullivan, she left you! This is your karma!"
Ethan ignored her, his gaze fixed on the two names side by side on the divorce papers.
Victoria's laughter died abruptly. She turned to leave but froze at the whispers of passersby.
"Isn't that Victoria Taylor? I heard she lost the baby..."
"Serves her right. How many mistresses get happy endings?"
"That poor innocent child..."
Victoria's hand instinctively touched her flat stomach. She pulled out her phone and opened her chat with Sophia.
[I'm sorry.]
The message was sent, but it sank like a stone. She finally understood—some mistakes could never be undone.
In the nursery, Ethan ran his fingers over the divorce papers, unable to bring himself to tear them up. This was the last remaining connection between him and Sophia.
Every day, he posted confessions on social media, laying bare all his mistakes. Then he obsessively scoured every comment, searching for even the faintest trace of Sophia.
When Margaret Sullivan pushed open the door, she barely recognized her son.
"Ethan!" Her voice trembled. "Look at what you've become!"
Ethan lifted his head, his eyes hollow. "Mom, I can't help it... She's all I think about..."
"If you want to find her, pull yourself together first!" Margaret's eyes reddened. "Think—what kind of man did Sophia love?"
The words struck like a jolt of clarity. Ethan suddenly stood up. "You're right... She liked me in suits..."
Watching her son stumble toward the bathroom, Margaret wiped her eyes. She took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Send more people. Find Sophia at any cost."
