Chapter 15

Warm and strong arms were wrapped around my frame, holding me against a muscled chest. Sparks exploded within me, like fireworks on the fourth of July. A smile spread across my lips, I felt nothing but happiness in his arms. I felt his soft snores against my neck, caressing my heated flesh. Slowly, I turned around in his arms and stared at him. Gently, I cupped his cheek, my thumb softly gliding across his smooth skin. He stirred a little, his eyebrows furrowing as a nightmare began to haunt him.

"Shhhhh, you're okay," I cooed.

He let out a whimper, mumbling whispered words. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed him on the head, trying to get him to relax.

"Please...." he mumbled. "Don't leave me, please, Olive."

"I won't," I assured him.

He cuddled up even closer, finally relaxing against me. As I laid with him, I began thinking of the mysterious man from last night. I remember Dominic saying something about Alpha Athos, he refused to let me ever meet him. Even when he made a surprise visit, Dominic made sure Athos had no knowledge of me existing.

"What's bothering you?" Vincent suddenly voiced, his eyes fluttering open.

I frowned, "Who is Alpha Athos?"

"An asshole."

"Thanks, that helps."

Vincent chuckled before sitting up, sighing as he stretched his muscles. He then turned towards me with a serious expression, his eyes dark as he prepared to explain Athos to me.

"Athos is my uncle," he started. "He was in love with my mom, but when he brought her home to meet his family, she discovered she was mates with my father. Of course, she instantly broke it off with Athos and got together with her true mate. It just...set something off in Athos. He attempted to destroy their bond, but it never worked. So, now....he wants me dead."

"Did he want Dominic dead too?"

"Not really, he only tormented my brother. Twisted his mind so he would believe that no one loved him."

I frowned, "Oh..."

Vincent nodded as he glanced at a picture of his family, "There are a few things that I would do differently, if I got one more day with my brother. Even if he did get upset and gave me this scar, he was still my brother."

I stared at the picture as well, my heart fell when I could see the pain through Dominic's smile. I wrapped my arms around Vincent and began kissing his back.

"Doesn't your uncle have a mate?" I asked.

He nodded, "Yes, but she's human. She was afraid of him and ran, he didn't chase after her."

"Why?"

"He knows he's a monster, he was afraid of hurting her too."

I pursed my lips before an idea struck, "Why don't we find her?"

Vincent turned towards me, his eyes wide, "Are you nuts?"

"Vince, come on, you know how being alone is for a wolf. Your uncle lost his first love and then his mate, of course he's going to give into his wolf."

"So, you want to help the psycho?"

I sighed, "Why do Alphas believe violence is always the answer? Why do we always have to get into some huge, dramatic war? Maybe we could help him find her."

He stared at me for a moment, his expression one of disbelief. He then furrowed his eyebrows, considering my words.

"I don't think it's smart," he stated.

"You said it yourself, Athos didn't go after her because he didn't want to hurt her. That goes to show he does still care, he isn't completely cold."

"He has tried killing me! He killed Dominic, Olivia."

"I know he did, but—

"No! We are not helping him, we are going to get rid of him. He deserves death, not mercy."

I groaned, "Everyone deserves a second chance! He was hurting and—

"And he gave into his wolf, he's weak, Olivia. I was hurting, I had to walk away from my mate, but I never gave into my wolf. Even when you and Dominic mated!"

"You feel sorry for your brother, you wish you could have one more day with him to make it right. You have mercy for him! What makes your uncle different?"

"Dominic was family."

"And your uncle isn't?" I retorted. "No wonder he turned his back on his brother and wants you dead. His own family shunned him. Do you even know the full story?"

Vincent glared at me, "Of course I do."

"Really? So, your incredibly strong uncle, who is an alpha, just gave into his wolf the second your mother left him? Why didn't he kill your father? Why not capture her? Why did he wait until you two were born?"

"You make no sense."

"I'm just trying to be reasonable!"

"You're being a fool!" He snarled.

"No, she's actually being smart."

We turned to see Julie leaning against the doorframe, her mouth formed into a thin line.

"How? Athos is a murderer, he's trying to kill us because he's jealous," Vincent sighed.

Julie shook her head, "He wants to take you from me because I killed his child."

"What?"

"I was pregnant with his pup, but I got an abortion. I was young and scared, but then he found out. he tried to understand, until we got into an argument and I used it to hurt him."

We were both horrified as she sat on our bed, her eyes downcast. Vincent struggled to speak for a moment, trying to escape the shock.

"Your uncle is an extremely dangerous man, but he's also broken. And I was the one who broke him," she whispered. "I regret everything I did, but I can't fix it. However, finding his mate isn't a bad idea. He needs someone to hold him, he's going to be his own downfall."

Vincent frowned, "But he's..."

"I know, he's not in the right state of mind. But I still care about him, which is why your father is already searching for Athos' mate. Your uncle was an amazing guy before this. He was a down to earth type of wolf, he always tried to understand both sides of the story. But I ruined him, he has no idea how sorry I truly am."

"I believe I deserve an apology," I stated.

Vincent chuckled, "Alright, I'll give you another foot massage."

Julie smiled, "So, is it a plan? We're going to find your uncle's mate?"

Vincent nodded, "Yeah."
