Chapter 19
Vincent and I silently ate our small meals, our minds consumed by Dominic. Neither one of us understood what he was, but we knew that the shadows surrounding him seemed to be fading. Vincent had cried after seeing his brother's ghost, unable to handle the fact that he couldn't hug him anymore.
I glanced at my mate, my heart aching as I saw the unshed tears in his eyes. His parents noticed the sudden sorrow surrounding us, but didn't question it. Instead, they attempted to make conversation with Athos, but he was still hesitant to open up to them. They had lost all of his trust after torturing his mind and emotions.
"Hey dad, can someone be brought back to life?" Vincent suddenly asked.
Rocco furrowed his eyebrows, "As in we bring them back to life?"
"No, as in getting a second chance."
"Yes, but it's extremely rare. It only happens when the goddess believes someone passed far before their time. They have to prove to her that if she does give them another chance at life, that they'll be kinder or appreciate what they have. Whether it's a family or money."
Vincent nodded before going silent again, a small smile tugged at his lips. I smiled as well, knowing what Dominic meant by a second chance. We could possibly get Dominic back in our lives, but this time, we'll cherish him.
"So, we're going to Barnesville, correct?" I asked, staring at my sister's text.
Rocco nodded, "Yup."
"Awesome, mind if my sister joins us? She could really use the distraction."
"Of course, is she okay?"
"Yeah, her mate uh....cheated on her with someone else. She has no one right now."
Julie frowned, "Poor baby, of course. A good road trip with family can always soothe a pained soul."
She momentarily glanced at Athos, but he wasn't paying attention. His eyes were glazed over with thought as he stared out the window, his jaw clenched. Ever so slowly, Julie had gently grabbed his jaw and made him look at her.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
He frowned, "I'm fine."
Rocco frowned at his brother, concerned with decorating his features. We were all worried about him, he wouldn't eat or talk, he always seemed far away.
"So, once we find out where she went, we'll travel there?" Vincent questioned.
Rocco glanced at him, "Yeah, but I have a feeling I know where she ran to. Her mother is the Queen of vampires."
"The royal palace..." Julie murmured.
Athos sighed, "This trip is useless, she probably has her own family by now."
"How do you know that?" Rocco asked.
"The pain of her mating with someone else, that's how."
"Well, then we go for closure. Maybe if you see her with a family of her own, you'll be able to move on," Julie replied.
"That's why I agreed to this, I just need to know if she's okay."
"Seraphina!" I shrieked with excitement, basically tackling my sister with a hug.
She laughed and hugged me back, "Hey, lil bitch!"
I rolled my eyes before facing Vincent and our family, "Sera, this is my mate, my future in—laws, and his uncle."
"Hey," Vincent greeted.
"Hey, hun, name is Julie. Oh, this is my husband, Rocco and my brother—in—law, Athos," Julie beamed.
Seraphina smiled, "It's a pleasure to finally meet you. And wait...Alpha Athos?"
Athos stared at her, transfixed by whatever he saw in her. He quickly snapped out of it though, but seemed to be slightly dazed still.
"Yes," he answered.
My sister grinned, "I never got to thank you for saving my life a few months ago. Your warriors are intimidating, to say the least."
He nodded, "My apologies, for their lack of manners."
I frowned, "You two know each other?"
"My warriors attempted to kill her. Now, moving on."
I blinked as he walked away, leaving me extremely confused. Seraphina rolled her eyes at me before hugging me once more.
"You could have told me you knew a hottie," she whispered.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Huh?"
"Have you seen Athos? He's gorgeous, his mate is lucky."
"Do...you have a crush?"
She blushed, "No."
I smirked and followed Athos, a small plan forming in my head.
