Chapter 21
"Get that stupid smirk off of your face," Seraphina grumbled from beside Athos.
The extremely proud Alpha only smiled, "No."
"You may have a big dick, but that doesn't mean anything."
"I'm good in bed."
Rocco groaned in front of us, "For once in your lifetime, could you be a little less...blunt?"
Athos shrugged, remaining quiet as we walked along the path. The heat was beginning to suffocate us, but it was mostly hurting Athos. We all knew he was falling ill, regardless of his ability to continue hiking. He had vomited twice now, both times it was just bile, not food. Seraphina attempted to get him to eat something small, but he refused each time. We were beginning to worry, wondering if he would truly allow himself to die.
The blue sky was void of clouds, nothing but the trees' shade protecting us for a few seconds. There was a light breeze, but it brought no relief. It was that time of year where spring transitions to summer, filling our minds with thoughts of the beach. Unfortunately, we could only focus on finding this damn cave.
"Guys, we need to take a break," Vincent stated.
His parents gave him a confused look until they saw Athos leaning against a tree. Seraphina quickly grabbed him as he fell, making his fall far less painful.
"Are there any packs nearby?" Rocco asked. "I know we're in neutral territory."
Vincent frowned, "I'm not sure, where is the Willow Stone pack located?"
"Twenty miles North," Seraphina sighed. "That's too long for him."
"I can make it...just...I just need to sleep," Athos murmured.
Rocco knelt beside his brother and ran his hand through his hair, "Shhhhh, drink some water, okay?"
Athos' eyes fluttered open, surprisingly, he didn't argue this time. He welcomed the cold water, gulping as much as he could down before Seraphina took it away. He then collapsed against her, falling into oblivion.
"Grab some cloths or something, we need to cool him down. His body is way too warm," Seraphina instructed.
Julie frowned, "Are you a nursing student?"
"No....I was mated to a pack doctor. He taught me a lot," she mumbled. "I guess I can thank him for something."
"What pack do you live in?" Rocco questioned.
My sister glanced at them, "I used to live in the Night Mountain pack, but I left...after I found him screwing one of his nurses."
"Wait...you left?" I gasped.
"Yeah, I couldn't live there anymore. I never really liked them anyway, the Alpha was an ass most of the time."
"You're welcomed to join my pack," Vincent stated.
My sister gave him a thankful smile before focusing on Athos, "Why is he so...guarded?"
"He has been through a lot," Rocco answered.
"He's so broken," she whispered, her voice soaked with sorrow. She studied him as she stroked his cheek, her eyes glazed over with thought.
"He is, but broken things can always be fixed," Julie said as she grabbed some shirts.
I instantly knew what to do, our parents did this for us when we were sick as children. I soaked them in the cold water and handed them to my sister. She began placing them on his forehead, neck, arms, and legs. When he only cooled down a bit, she released a frustrated breath.
"Alright, I can't believe I'm saying this, but we need to strip him of his clothes. His boxers can stay on though," she sighed.
I smirked, "You don't wanna see his—
"No."
I laughed before carefully removing his shirt, revealing a toned chest. We all stared at it in horror, our eyes transfixed by the terrible scar.
"It looked like someone tore into his chest..." Julie murmured.
Seraphina went to touch it when he suddenly grabbed her wrist, "Please....don't."
She frowned, "What happened?"
"Nothing."
"But—
"I said nothing, don't make me repeat myself again. Please," he groaned.
She frowned further, but didn't argue as she began undoing his pants. His eyes snapped open, but his brother quickly pinned him down.
"We need to get you to cool off," she huffed.
"Oh....okay."
Rocco raised an eyebrow, "If he wasn't passing out again, I would probably be thrown down this hill."
"And me?" My sister mused.
"Pinned against a tree, with his claws in your throat. My brother isn't....a gentleman all the time."
"Yeah, because he has been such a gentleman lately. Showing me his overly large, limp dick, is so charming."
"Why is everyone so sarcastic?"
"Because, you say stupid stuff half the time," Julie answered.
"No..." Athos whined as my sister and I attempted to get his pants back on.
Julie stood guard, waiting for her husband and son to return from hunting. We remained in the dark, trying to hide a sick Alpha from rogues. But with his delirious whining, I was shocked no one attacked yet.
"Athos, shush," Seraphina whispered.
He frowned, "But you're harassing me."
"I am trying to get your fucking pants on!"
"Pervert."
"You son of a—
"Can you two quit bickering?" I groaned.
"Oh, no, please continue. It's quite amusing."
All three of us spun around, our eyes widening as three werewolves stepped out of the shadows. By their scents, they were rogues, dangerous ones.
"Oh? Did we frighten you? How rude of us, the name is Zayden. These are the twins, Tyler and Elijah. Nice to meet you," Zayden smirked.
I narrowed my eyes at them, slowly preparing myself to fight, "What do you want?"
"That Alpha, if I kill him...I become Alpha of his pack."
"Do you even know who this is?" My sister snapped.
Zayden tilted his head, "Alpha Athos, one of the most dangerous ones. He's looking a bit pathetic though."
"Well, yeah, he's sick."
Zayden shrugged before glancing at the twins, "Boys, shall we?"
However, before they could move, the twins collapsed. I stared at the blood flowing from their necks, caused by a slice in their throats.
"You're welcome, I supposed you want to finish him off," Dominic stated from a tree.
Zayden narrowed his eyes, "Who the hell are you?"
"Nobody."
"How dare you kill my warriors!"
"You called them warriors? We got an idiot over here," Dominic retorted.
Zayden suddenly smirked as multiple wolves jumped out, baring their canines at us.
"Have fun, I have business to get to," he chuckled.
The wolves immediately attacked, ripping us away from Athos. I broke the one wolf's neck and shoved her away before searching for Athos. I growled softly when I saw Zayden making his way over to him, his eyes gleaming with pure evil. I fought through the wolves, ripping them apart as my adrenaline pumped through my veins.
I glanced towards my sister to see her ripping someone's heart out, much to my disgust. Behind her, Julie was in her wolf form, tearing through another's throat.
"Ah, finally, I'll become an Alpha," Zayden announced as he snatched Dominic's dagger.
My eyes widened, I attempted to run towards them, but I was tackled by three wolves. However, my sister easily moved through them, her eyes never leaving Athos. Before Zayden could bring the dagger down, she grabbed his wrist.
"Don't you dare," she snarled.
Zayden sneered at her as he clawed her face, believing that would actually do something. Seraphina became angrier, her eyes turning black as she twisted his wrist until he dropped the dagger. Before Dominic could reach it, wolves managed to latch onto him. I gave him a confused look, he only shrugged.
He'll tell me later.
My sister and Zayden continued to fight, the both of them attempting tk grab the dagger. My heart skipped a beat when he punched her in the stomach, hard enough to disable her ability to breathe. He swiftly grabbed the dagger and plunged it into her leg, causing her to scream. He quickly yanked it out and prepared to stab her again, only for someone to block the blow with their body.
"What the—
Before he could finish, Athos grabbed him by the throat and pinned him against a tree.
"You rogues are really starting to piss me off," he snarled.
Zayden glared at him, but even from my spot I could tell he was scared. Athos slowly glanced at his side before yanking the knife out.
"Nice try," he spat.
He slit the rogue's throat with ease, allowing him to fall to the ground. All the rogues suddenly scattered, running away with their tails between their legs.
"Pathetic," he snarled.
"Sera!" I shrieked, running over to my sister.
She gave me a weak smile, "I'm fine. Just a small puncture wound."
Athos turned around, his golden eyes shining as he knelt beside her. He didn't say a word as he ripped part of his shirt and tied it around her thigh.
"It should heal in a few hours, you need to rest though," he stated coldly.
Seraphina nodded, "Uh, thanks...for saving my life, again."
He ignored her and stood up, swaying a bit before collapsing against another tree.
"Well, this will be fun to explain," Julie commented as she threw on a shirt.
I looked towards her, "Yeah. Vincent won't leave my side for a while."
"At least you two have mates who care," my sister whispered. "Mine didn't even try to stop me from leaving."
"Then he isn't worth the thought," Athos sighed. "Now, please, be silent so I can sleep."
My sister frowned, "Didn't he stab you?"
"I'll be fine, worry about yourself. Thank you."
"I was just asking, quit being an ass for once," she snapped.
He sighed, "It's a waste of energy to worry over me, once we return home, I'll disappear from your life. I disappear from everyone's life eventually."
"And if I don't want you to?" She challenged, causing him to become tense.
He stared at her for a moment, "You can't fix me."
"That won't stop me from trying."
