Chapter 24
"So, you know of a shadow spirit?" Rocco asked us, trying to make eye contact through the mirror.
Vincent nodded, "He probably doesn't want us to spoil his identity, but he's trying to protect us. Layla can't hurt him."
"Unless she finds out where his body is," Julie commented. "His body will be perfectly preserved by the goddess until she deems him worthy enough to live again. If Layla destroys his body, she destroys the spirit."
"We'll protect his body," I replied quickly.
Rocco released a breath, it was obvious he didn't approve of our plan. However, he nodded, knowing it was our only hope.
"Who's protecting the body? And where is this body?" He asked.
"Tell them, it's okay," Dominic sounded, but remained invisible to us.
Vincent swallowed, "On top of the hill at home....under a stone marked Dominic Crow."
His parents froze, their eyes becoming wet with unshed tears. Julie opened her mouth to speak, but words failed her as she began to cry.
"Vincent, you better be telling the truth," Rocco rasped.
"He is....Dominic is the one protecting us," I said softly. "Brayden and a few warriors will watch over his grave."
"Along with a close friend of mine, a dead witch is even more dangerous than a living one," Dominic voiced. "They can't see her."
His words puzzled me, but I didn't question him. I remained silent, praying that this will go over smoothly. I know it's rare for something to ever go as planned, but for once, I hope it does. For their sake and Athos'.
"I'm hoping this works, I want my son back," Julie cried softly.
We all looked over when Athos sudden coughed, his body convulsing from the merciless hacking. My sister hugged him tighter, telling him to take a deep breath.
"How far are we?" She asked.
"Five minutes, he's getting worse...isn't he?" Rocco murmured.
Seraphina nodded, "Hang in there, Athos."
"I'm tr—trying," he said quietly.
"Does the Alpha know we're coming?" I asked.
"Yeah, they have the doctor waiting with the required medicines."
"S—stop touching me," Athos grumbled.
Seraphina rolled her eyes, "I may be the one to kill him at this point. He's like a child."
"I d—don't like b—being touched."
Seraphina narrowed her eyes at him before smirking, Athos gave her a confused look until her hand slipped lower.
"By the lust in your eyes, I highly doubt you want me to stop touching you at this point. Thus, proving my previous statement was correct," she smirked.
He groaned, "Gods, you're an—annoying."
"No, I'm just right and you're wrong."
"Sh—shut up."
"I find it surprising you're an alpha," she continued to tease.
"Please, don't challenge him, he will do it. No matter what it is," Rocco whined.
"Like pinning you against a bed and proving I'm an Alpha," Athos piped in.
I laughed as her face turned red, realizing her mistake in challenging him, again. Athos smiled at her, his eyes showing amusement.
That's truly the only way any of us can tell what he's thinking. His eyes give away his emotions, sometimes, they even give his life story. Just by seeing all that agony in them, you know he hasn't lead a simple life. Even without Rocco or Julie's explanations, I already knew he was a broken man.
He soon realized he was smiling and looked away, avoiding my sister's gaze. Seraphina opened her mouth, as if wanting to say something, but she quickly shut it. She only grabbed the water bottle and held it up with a smile, telling him to take a few sips.
Athos silently watched her, his eyebrows furrowing when he noticed the sorrow on her face. I eventually turned away, feeling wrong for watching their private moment.
"We're here," Rocco announced.
As soon as Athos was settled in, Vincent pulled me aside into his embrace. I laughed as he slipped his hands into the sides of my pants and kissed me on the forehead.
"So, where should we go?" He asked.
I pursed my lips, "Can we just go star gazing?"
"Of course, I'll see if I can grab a blanket and buy some food," he replied with another kiss.
"Vince?"
"Yeah?"
"Will we be okay?"
He gently grabbed my jaw and tilted it up, "I'm going to make sure we get our happy ending. Okay?"
I nodded silently and rested my head on his chest, smiling when he kissed me on the head.
Dominic POV
"She won't touch my body?" I asked nervously.
May smirked, "Sweetheart, I can manipulate their gifts and turn their own powers against them. I made a vampire burn from the inside out and murdered the son of Vladimir Dracula. If Layla even attempts to destroy you, I will make her death extremely painful."
I stared at her in stunned silence, as if realizing how sadistic she just sounded, she quickly looked away.
"Hey, May, look at me," I coaxed.
She shook her head as tears flowed down her cheeks, "I can't do this anymore."
"What?"
"You're going to get your l—life back! I....I....I fucking love you and I'm going to lose you!"
I quickly pulled her against me, trying to soothe her pain, "Shhhhh, babygirl, you won't lose me."
"I a—already am," she whimpered.
"No, you aren't. I'm going to bring you with me, why else would you be a shadow spirit?"
She stared at me with those big, beautiful eyes. I leaned down and kissed her on the lips, claiming her as mine in the least intimate way. Gods know we can't have sex as spirits.
"I love you too," I murmured.
