Chapter 27
Olivia POV
Seraphina and I sat beside Athos as he slept, discussing about Layla. I could tell my sister was nervous, wondering if Athos would choose Layla over her. However, considering Layla is now engaged to another man, I doubt Athos would want anything to do with her. Especially if she breaks off an engagement, after running away from him. Vincent had told me his uncle wasn't that type of person, he wouldn't even trust the vampire again.
"Once you ruin his trust in you, there is no getting it back. Unless you're special to him, maybe he'll let you in again."
Seraphina sighed as she rested her head on his bed, her eyes studying his sleeping form. She brought her hand up and ran her fingers through his hair.
"He'll be okay," I assured her.
She glanced at me, "Physically maybe, but mentally....how am I supposed to get through to him? He has so many inner demons. As soon as he sees he's being a tiny bit open, he immediately shuts me out. He continues to make that wall thicker around his heart. You take half a step forward, but a hundred steps back."
"Athos has been hurt over and over again, by his own family. You're going to have to be extremely patient with him," I said softly.
"I have the patience, but I'm just...worried. He's terrified of showing anyone emotion. Bottling everything up isn't healthy, at all."
"I know, but you'll eventually get through to him. You just can't give up."
She looked back at his face as he whimpered in his sleep, she continued running her fingers through his hair, calming him.
"I won't...not for a long time," she murmured.
"NO! STOP....please, don't leave."
I jumped awake as Athos screamed, his eyebrows furrowed from pain. Seraphina immediately attempted to soothe him, telling him he was okay. Tears ran down his face as he continued to suffer, begging someone not to leave.
"I'm sorry, Ro...please."
"Shhhhhh, you're okay Athos," Seraphina cooed.
After talking to him with a calming voice, he eventually relaxed, mumbling apologies to Rocco. Seraphina sighed in relief and collapsed in her chair, her eyes reflecting concern.
"He's not broken, he's completely shattered," she whispered.
