Chapter 8

"The first challenger is my second best warrior, Felix," I whispered.

Vincent nodded before cracking his neck, his eyes turning slightly gold as he stepped into the center. Felix stood completely still, waiting for Vincent to make the first move. I felt pity for Felix, I didn't have to see Vince fight to know he was dangerous.

"Why are you standing there?" Vincent teased. "Ladies first!"

Felix growled softly as he lunged at him, but Vincent expected that. He swiftly dodged him before grabbing him by the ankle and breaking it. Felix cried out, slamming into the ground as Vincent only stood there.

"I find it hard to believe you're the second best warrior," Vincent scoffed.

Felix groaned, "What the fuck are you? No one is that fucking fast!"

Vincent laughed before stepping on his chest, putting most of his weight on it. Felix's eyes widened, his mouth falling open as her attempted to pull in some oxygen.

"Your alpha," Vincent sneered.

Felix snarled and clawed Vincent's chest, causing blood to immediately rush to the surface. I watched as Vincent grew angrier, his eyes flashing gold for a moment.

"Did my father seriously train you?" Vincent questioned.

Felix shook his head, "I was a tr—transfer."

I pursed my lips, I totally forgot about him being a transfer.

"Olivia..." Vincent sighed. "Do keep track of your pack members' previous homes. That's your first lesson about leading a pack."

I blushed and looked away, a spark of annoyance bubbling in my chest. His arrogance showed through his smirk towards me, earning a low warning growl from my wolf. He chuckled before punching Felix in the face, knocking him out cold.

"And be a better judge of a warrior's skill level," he stated. "That was pathetic."

I clenched my jaw, "Are you done?"

"Finding your flaws in leading? No."

"Why are you being an ass all of a sudden?" I snapped.

He frowned, as if finally realizing how rude his statements sounded. He immediately grabbed my jaw gently and tilted my head up, his eyes gleaming with guilt.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound...." he trailed off and swallowed. "To sound like a Dominic comment."

I sighed, "At least you actually apologize."

He smiled before kissing me on the cheek, mumbling he would make up for his hubris act. He then stepped back out onto the field, eyeing his second challenger. I studied my warrior, knowing he actually may be a challenge for Vincent. Then again, I apparently suck at knowing who my best warriors are.

The second challenger, Quentin, attacked first. Catching Vincent off guard as he wrapped his arm around the alpha's throat. I winced when he slammed Vincent into the ground, his lips forming into a smirk. A crack sounded, along with a small groan from Vincent. Despite the pain, he got up and grabbed Quentin by the arm and dislocated it, rendering his arm useless. Quentin showed no sign of pain though, his eyes only narrowed, searching for a weakness. However, Vincent showed non, he stood tall and proud.

Faster than light, Quentin's fist connected with Vincent's jaw, earning another sickening crack. Vincent only stumbled a little, his hand shooting up to grab Quentin's wrist. As if knowing his next move, Quentin dodged it and kneed Vincent in the stomach. I bit my lip as Vincent doubled over, his eyes wide and his face pale. He quickly recovered though and knocked Quentin of his feet before pinning him to the ground.

"I'm not submitting," Quentin snarled as he dug his claws into Vincent's shoulder.

Vincent chuckled, "Bad choice."

A few pack members gasped as Vincent elbowed Quentin in the head. Quentin's body went limp, his eyes shutting as he lost the fight.

"He wasn't terrible," Vincent commented, glancing towards me.

I shrugged, "Next challenger!"

A tall, muscular male stepped out, his green eyes locking onto Vincent's. I raised my eyebrows, trying to figure out who this one was.

He didn't say a word as he lunged at Vincent, but he wasn't quick enough. Vincent dodged his attack, moving with grace as he ripped flesh off of the man's shoulder. The warrior stumbled before turning and striking again, attempting to hit Vincent in the temple. I frowned, gently poking Brayden.

"Make sure he doesn't kill Vince," I ordered.

Brayden nodded, "He's one of Alpha Dominic's friends. He's lethal."

I nodded, "Something tells me he doesn't like Vincent."

"He doesn't."

Air was forced from Vincent's lungs as the larger man stomped on his chest, breaking a few ribs. Vincent glared at him and attempted to stand, but I could tell he couldn't breathe. The man smirked, his eyes mirroring triumph.

"Brayden..." I mumbled.

Brayden furrowed his eyebrows, "Wait."

As the man's foot came down on Vincent's chest again, Vincent grabbed his leg and twisted. I watched with horror as the man's kneecap tore through his skin while the man screamed. Vincent then shoved him away, finally taking in a little air.

"B—bastard," Vincent snarled.

The man continued to scream, his hands grabbing at his broken knee. Brayden smirked and folded his arms across his chest.

"I'm starting to like him," he stated.

I raised an eyebrow, "You challenged him last night."

"To test him, I'm not stupid enough to fight him. If he can fight with little to no oxygen going to his brain, he can fight through anything. Dominic was never this skilled, it took months to make him a decent fighter."

I grunted in reply, my eyes following Vincent as he climbed to his feet. His face regained its color, telling me he was breathing again. His next challenger stepped up, not giving anyone a chance to process his identity before he was attacking. Barely awake, Vincent still managed to dodge his attack. He didn't allow the man to hit the ground before he was grabbing him by the throat and slamming him down. He landed punches and kicks, his eyes holding a desperate look.

He was hurting too much.

The warrior howled through his agony and dug his claws into Vincent's abdomen, ripping through his flesh. Blood poured out of the injured alpha, but it didn't seem to faze him. Vincent continued fighting, not allowing the warrior to land another strike. He danced around him, giving his body a little time to heal before finishing his victim off.

The warrior was soon knocked down with a trickle of blood leaking from his nose. As they carried him away, Vincent stumbled a bit, spitting out the blood from his mouth.

"Anyone else?" I asked, hoping he could go rest.

I blanched when two warriors stepped into the middle, their eyes dark with triumph. They waited until Vincent was injured to fight him.

Smart.

"If he beats them...he'll have my respect," Brayden whispered.

I nodded, "If they get close to killing him, snap their necks."

"But—

"I don't take kindly to attempted murders, especially when it includes him. They know the rules," I stated, cutting him off.

Brayden smiled, "You love him."

"No, right now, I care about him. There's a difference."

Vincent dodged their attacks, but he was slowing down. The wound on his abdomen was making him weaker as it bled, staining the ground with his blood. The two warriors were relentless, their canined bared as they attacked over and over again. They clawed him, punched him, and kicked him as he tried staying on his feet. Doubt started to consume me, my body getting ready to step in.

I watched, with wide eyes as Vincent grabbed them both by the neck. Taking a deep breath, he slammed their heads together before slamming them onto the ground. As they attempted to stand, he found their pressure points and knocked them unconscious.

"Please...no more," he rasped as he tumbled to the ground.

He was still awake, but he was fading fast, exhaustion shined in his eyes. I scanned the crowd, but I knew it was over. I knew he won when they all bowed to him, submitting.

They accepted their new Alpha.
