Chapter 7

I stared at him, completely flummoxed by his answer. I opened my mouth to speak, but my words died on my tongue. Vincent pursed his lips in thought, most likely trying to figure out how to explain.

"He had a silver knife during one of our runs....he wanted to talk to me about you. It was the day after I left, so you wouldn't see," he murmured finally.

I frowned, "Why did he hate you so much?"

"Our father was going to have me become alpha. I was always the better fighter, thinker, and leader. Dominic could barely lead himself out of a plastic bag, I'm shocked he didn't ruin the pack."

"Well, he had a lot of stupid ideas. However, I easily shot them down with the help of our beta and Brayden."

He nodded, "Anyway, Dominic couldn't fight well and would definitely lose against me. But he was good at manipulating others. He made the pack and our parents believe I ran away, that they had hurt me some how. He made me run to keep you safe, even though you were in his arms every night."

"I can't believe I actually loved him..."

"He was your mate, you couldn't help it."

His voice held a sad note, causing me to look back up at him. Without thinking, I gently cupped his cheek, making he snap his eyes to me. I stroked my thumb over his cheek, smiling a little.

"Well, we're mates too. Which means, I'll end up loving you, despite losing my memories of us," I said softly, kissing his cheek.

He released a breath and rested his forehead against my shoulder. I rubbed his back while my other hand rested against his head. He was tired, but not physically, emotionally. I kissed him on the temple, not bothering to fight the bond. I welcomed it, wanting to love and cherish him. Like he deserved.

Even though I don't love him now, I know I will someday. Whether it's next week or next month, I'll eventually fall. But right now, I just want to ease the pain in his tortured heart.

"Thank you, for not running away," he suddenly mumbled.

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Why would I run away?"

"This," he replied, motioning towards his scar.

"I think it's hot."

I blushed when I realized what came out of my mouth, silently cussing out my tongue. Vincent smirked, his eyes gleaming with amusement as he stared down at me.

"Oh, really?" He mused, wrapping his arms around my waist.

I gulped, my heart skipping a beat when he pulled me closer, "I...uh..."

He chuckled and kissed my forehead, "You're cute when you're embarrassed."

"Bastard."

"That would be me."

The following morning, I mentally prepared myself to watch Vincent fight his challengers. I read down the list, clenching my jaw when I realized these were my best warriors.

"So, who am I fighting?" Vincent asked, leaning against the front door frame.

I looked up, "All of my best warriors, your father trained them."

He frowned, "My dad?"

"Yeah....he trains my new warriors."

"They're still alive?"

I realized what he meant now, my heart twisted, "Yeah....you...didn't know?"

"No, Dominic...told me they died."

"How about we visit them after this?" I suggested with a smile.

He nodded, "Sounds like a plan. I have to apologize..."

"Why? None of this is your fault."

"I should have stood my ground, I'm an alpha, not an omega."

I shook my head, "Well, alpha, go out there and show them why you're the alpha."

He smirked, "Yes, Luna."
