Trapped by My Crush's Dad

Chapter 28: Downtrodden

Chapter 28: Downtrodden

Everett pov

Lately, I've been very depressed. Just recently, my friends gathered to make fun of me for being dumped by Mila. They think it's still something that happened from school. I wasn't going to correct them by saying she had outright rejected me.

It was on my mind about why she had behaved that way, though.

Since she began working with my father, I'd felt more at ease imagining that he had his watchful eye on her. I knew she wouldn't have the chance to flirt or date anyone with how busy she was.

At least that's what I thought. But the more we spoke, she kept rejecting me. I couldn't get anything out of her. Before, I was convinced that she'd come back to me, begging to have sex but that didn't happen.

One night while we were at her place for our family dinner, I got her to finally admit there was another guy. I knew that this couldn't be someone outside of work because there was no way she could pull that off with how packed her schedule was. When I accused her of dating someone in the company, she vehemently denied it, but I wasn't so sure she was telling me the truth.

So, I played a prank on her and purposely posted her photo to our group chat. It worked and she contacted me right after. When I retracted the picture, I arranged to meet her at my house tonight. I planned to ask her once she was at my house.

When I got home, the house was kind of dark and I expected my dad to be gone but there he was sitting at the dining room table.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him, widening my eyes in surprise. My heart was beating loudly in my ears. He was going to mess everything up!

"Why do you ask?"

I needed to think of a reason but if I said anything that was an outright lie, he'd know. He always saw through my stories. He was clever that way.

"You said you were going to a dinner party. I was just wondering if something happened."

That was the truth. He couldn't blame me for wondering. Still, I couldn't stop fidgeting. If he found out about what I was doing with Mila, he'd kill me.

When he didn't answer me, I couldn't stand the way he was staring at me, so I went upstairs to my room.

After a little while, I came down but to my surprise he was still here. The time for her to come was getting closer. Feeling agitated I couldn't help but confront him.

"Dad, I thought you were leaving," I blurted out. It was probably a little forceful to say to him, but it was too late. He flicked his eyes to me, already suspecting something was up.

"Why are you so concerned with me being here? Got a party?" My father raised his eyebrows once. He seemed like he was only teasing, but I've been fooled into thinking that before. Perhaps he really did know about it.

My heart was racing, not only in fear but anger. The only way I could pull this off with Mila was to find another place to hook up.

"Never mind," I said in a huff as I left. As soon as I was out of the house, I sent her a calendar message, adding the location of my friend's place. They needed a house sitter, so I might as well take advantage. At least there was a guarantee we'd be alone.

After pulling my cell out of my pocket, I waited at the end of the driveway pausing to send her the message. When I touched my phone suddenly it blacked out. I knew it was fully charged so it couldn't be dead. Grabbing my backpack, I pulled out my laptop. No big deal. I was still on the wifi here.

I turned on but then there was a weird blip and the screen went dead.

"What the hell?"

Hitting the power button repeatedly didn't work. I even tried removing the battery and putting it back in but that didn't help either. This was bullshit. Maybe the IT department at school could help.

I had no choice but to take the bus there. As I walked down the hallway with my phone and laptop, I found their call center. After waiting a minute, a couple of people came over. I explained what happened.

"That sounds like the lava virus that has newly popped up."

"Lava virus?" I asked.

"Yeah, your devices won't turn on, either, right?"

"No," I said, exhaling in disappointment.

"You probably need to buy new ones," they said to me.

I was pissed. Instead of doing what I wanted to with Mila, I was restless all night and didn't come home until the early morning. Once I was back, I talked to my father and that didn't go well.

"Let's have some breakfast," my father suggested. We had the cleaning lady cook us a big meal of bacon, eggs, and toast. As I sat beside my father at our dining room table, I glanced over at him.

He was quiet, which wasn't out of the norm for him, but I was worried about the night before. Plus, this morning he was angry with me. I didn't want to disturb him as he ate and read about the recent stock prices of his company, but I was burning inside with jealousy. I had to know.

"Dad, who in the company is after Mila?"

My father glared at me.

"I already told you, Everett. Drop it. Respect Mila."

"Why should I? She's a bitch."
