Chapter 28 Shameless People Are Invincible

Blake’s face took on a ghastly expression.

This woman was avoiding him.

Aware of that, Blake’s anger was provoked by Astrid again. His voice was deep and full of furious, "Avoiding me?"

Astrid did not say anything, but she secretly calmed down her emotions. After a long time, she looked at Blake and smiled, "How dare I hide from you? Mr. Ledger is noble. You touch a lowly showgirl like me. Aren’t you afraid to damage your own status?"

Then she stood up, and there was a dead chill on her face. “Well, we can leave now, Mr. Ledger. Didn't you want me to help you with your business? Only your business is done. Please back my daughter as you promised!”

She then took the lead and walked out of the guest room, slamming the door and leaving.

At night the city lights up, and the banquet starts.

The entrance was filled with reporters, and the flashing lights came on when Blake appeared. The beautiful woman standing beside him got everyone's attention.

The woman was not his fiancee Mikayla Harlem, but Astrid, who was jailed for murder five years ago!

She was wearing a small white dress, black hair to the ears, beautiful face. It looked like she had never gone to prison. But people who were familiar with Astrid knew that it seemed that something was changed, although her appearance had not changed.

Astrid smiled lightly, dealing with these social occasions. She could manage all kinds of situations now.

She could take Carrie and leave if she got through the night. If she couldn't go back to Cloud Coast, she could go to another city and take Carrie to a place where she would never meet Blake again.

Someone soon came up to say hello to Blake, and their eyes kept glancing at Astrid's side.

In the crowd, Blake's presence was still so dazzling. His handsome face and slender body caught the attention of socialites.

Astrid walked aside silently, but her ears were ringing with the group's teasing voice.

"Mr. Ledger is generous that he would accept such a wicked woman!"

The ridicule sounded through the banquet hall. Those socialites looked at Astrid sitting on the sofa with contempt.

"She is a shameless woman."

Blake’s words immediately made the arrogant women unabashedly show their hostility while Astrid drank from the champagne placed aside.

Shortly after, a woman sat down next to her.

A faint sneer crossed Astrid’s face. Shall they get started?

"I don't know why some women can be so cheap. How dare she brazenly pester Mr. Ledger. She had killed Mr. Ledger’s mother!”

The woman speaking while making up her sharp voice made all the socialites in the audience hear clearly.

"Yeah, that was a big deal back in that year. After that bitch was released from prison, she dared to badger Mr. Ledger. Shameless people are invincible!”

Astrid had long been immune to these slanders and gossip, and her purpose today was simple. She would take Carrie away after she finished Blake’s task.

Astrid looked at Blake talking to the men. She thought that he was probably looking for an old and ugly man for her, like Mr. Umber!

But she didn't care anymore. As long as she could get Carrie back, even if it cost her life, she wouldn't mind.
